People all over the world have always been classified into some distinct categories by using visual differences such as skin color, hair form, and eye shape. According to Leverette (2018), a race is a very sturdy social idea relatively to the biological truth. It is deeply rooted in most people's psyches and fully accepted by the majority. Race- the Power of an Illusion explores authentic differences existing between races of different people all other the world. We find that DNA patterns are used to determine distinctions existing between people of different skin color, eye shape, and skin color from different geographical locations. The result of all the experiments that were carried out vividly shows that all human modifications are always connected to local and geographical conditions but not genetic distinctions (Leverette, 2018).
Despite all these genetic results proving that race doesn't exist in biology, it is still matters, very real and it has been in the forefront shaping life, opportunities, and chances in our life (Leverette, 2018). Most people use visual differences to differentiate themselves from others. It has become a new occurrence that has got a diverse effect and it flourishes in most of our societies causing hatred. While the majorities are trying to appreciate their difference in colors, religious beliefs and adopt diversity, there are some other groups who view some other races as threats. Such intolerance often leads to massive consequences in our society (Leverette, 2018).
However, there are so many disadvantages that arise as a result of people differentiating themselves in terms of visual differences. Most people focus on races resulting in racial discrimination in our societies. Leverette, (2018) argued that racial discrimination usually occurs at different levels, personal level, and national level. All these may lead to effects such as individuals' poor attitude, persecution, violent outburst, and ethnic cleansing and many more. As a result, this can be very destructive to people's culture and to the whole country's well-being. Additionally, it may also lead to moral and economic turbulence. Therefore, if racism is given chance to flourish in our societies, its negative consequences will probably expanse and be revealed throughout human activities (Leverette, 2018).
Leverette, (2018) argued that this has contributed to a very big negative impact on our societies. It has lead to poor health status of most people and also creates subjections complex. Inferiority complex makes an individual feel that he or she is inadequate and does not fit into the society. This is usually caused by presumed inferiority in one realm, often marked by hostile conduct in compensation (Leverette, 2018).
Additionally, it has also caused fear and feeling of insecurity among the community being discriminated. This, therefore, induces an individual to develop a lack of self-confidence, as a result, it takes away the freedom of free self-expression thereby denying victims giving their viewpoints and opportunities in the society. According to Leverette (2018), there are also various effects that are associated with racial discrimination that adversely affects our society, they include increased rate of poverty due to unequal opportunities, and cohesiveness, harmony, and unity are also surely sabotaged.
Moreover, there also injustice experienced majorly in workplaces and in our judicial system. Leverette, (2018) argued that there are many misconceptions that have been exposed that deprive many people of enjoying their life experiences and instead live in fear making them being by individuals they believe are more superior than them. However, from genetic mappings that were carried out, it is clear that all human modifications are always connected to local and geographical conditions but not genetic distinctions (Leverette, 2018).
