Introduction

South Florida's geography is distinct from that of other parts of the country. One of the unique features is the mix of marshes, swamps, beaches, islands, lakes, and beaches. There are four regions which host flora and fauna namely hilly area, swamp and wetland, the Florida Keys and Gulf Coast. The coastal region consists of flat land with sandy beaches, islands, coral reefs as well as sandbars. The rolling hills located in the hilly area stretch up to the Florida panhandle where there is the Britton Hill.

The swampy Everglades is the largest wilderness in the subtropical of United States with an average of 8 ft. above sea level. The region has many bays, small lakes, channels as well a small islands (Harrington, 2018). The region is significant both locally and internationally as it is categorized as a heritage site, wetland as well as biosphere reserve which is recognized globally. The Florida Keys is another region that is home to several flora and fauna. It has approximately one thousand seven hundred islands which start at Florida peninsula at the southern tip and stretches to Dry Tortugas which is located in the Gulf of Mexico

The Florida peninsula has an extensive collection of marshes, springs, swamps, ponds and rivers, springs as well as various islands. Lake Okeechobee is the largest freshwater body found in this region. The lake is approximately 20 foot deep, and it stretches to Everglades where it drains into. This lake is ranked the seventh in terms of length among the freshwater lakes in the United States and is the second within the 48 states. The largest freshwater is Lake Michigan which covers an area of 57,800 sq. Km. The lake has a length of 307 miles and width of 118 miles. Lake Okeechobee was formed when wetlands formed peat deposits that finally created a lake.

The Florida Keys region has several rivers namely Suwannee, St. John, Apalachicola, Indian, Kissimmee as well as Caloosahatchee (Harrington, 2018). The regions are near coastal areas; hence it suffers from the tectonic forces from the sea. The tectonic boundaries run from Florida to Georgia and in the movement of the forces they become weaker and are broken into weaker different force. The features formed in south Florida depends on the strength of the force that comes from the ocean.

The rock type of South Florida is not able to withstand the tectonic forces that come from the sea. Their weaknesses of rocks from different features because they are weak and they have to reshape due to the new forces (Ellwein, McFadden, McAuliffe, & Mahan, (2018). The rocks do not offer any resistance from the forces that come from the sea, and hence they will form the shapes depending on the nature of the force. Erosion has also contributed to the formation of landforms, and the soil is carried away forming different landforms depending on the amount of soil eroded. The landforms formed in South Florida include buttes, canyons, valleys, and basins.

Conclusion

In conclusion, South Florida continues to experience land reforms due to the forces that come from the sea leading to the formation of different landforms. After the formation of the landforms, they are later influenced by whether challenges such as erosion. The landforms will continue to occur because the forces will continue to occur.
