Introduction
Due to the increased incidences of crime among the juvenile boys and girls in the country, there is a need for a strong plan to prevent the increased cases. The plan focuses on two specific goals, which include, first, is the minimization of future criminality among the young population considering their increased engagement in crime. Secondly, the plan intends to try to enhance the juvenile lives by eliminating the possibility of them becoming offenders and minimizing their chances of engaging in crime. The main objectives of this plan include reducing the number of young people engaging in crime and assisting the youth in the recovery process. This objective will be achieved by creating programs that are focused on driving towards social change.
Action plan
Developing a crime prevention program or initiative that will focus mainly on the youths. The main purpose of this program is to encourage the youths to change their behaviors for them to be more productive in society. This program will be effectively achieved through understanding human behavior as a tool for directing medication of a specific program to attain the expected outcome (Percy-Smith, & Thomas 2009). This concept of human behavior helps in understanding the youth's criminal behavior without the help of the spiritual, social or economic environment. This initiative program will require community support in terms of either volunteered workforce or donation for it to attain its objective. Also, the program will require the recruitment of staff and trainers who will be using behavior science to rehabilitate to help in rehabilitating the affected youths. This program will also assist in the prevention of future crime programs, through promoting the rights of the youth and considering their attitude.
Introduction of a youth treatment program
This program will mainly focus on the youth who have been involved in several violent crimes within a specific time. It will also focus on the youths who have shown the specific persistent behavior of criminal activities. The youth treatment programs will achieve through developing rehabilitation centers where those who have been involved in serious crimes will be taken. The program intends to equip those involved in crime with other essential life skills while in rehabilitation centers. For example, equipping them with specific skills such as driving and carpentry that will help them to stop indulging in criminal activities ( Cohn 2009). The treatment program will work in collaboration with other personnel such as the psychologists, community health workers and people who were previously involved in a crime but reformed. Seeking community assets will be important in the achievement of the project, for example, the community may be involved in financing the project and allocate land for the creation of a rehabilitation center. The expected rehabilitation time will be six months for every complete cycle; this timeline will be achieved with the collaboration of the youth's parents and the school system.
Those who are likely to object the plan.Severe opposition from other agency initiatives may face the implementation of the project plan. For example, the child welfare agency, which performs the task of serving the youths, involved in the rehabilitation programs to improve the expected outcome. The agency may oppose the project plan in various ways such as claiming that the program or initiative does not provide services that are up to standard or the services offered does not achieve the expected outcome. The agencies may also oppose the project plan by claiming that there are not enough resources to fully achieve the development of the initiative or program. On the other hand, the community members may also oppose the project since they may be concerned about their children safety through the involvement in the program. For example, they may be concerned about what their children will be taught while in the rehabilitation centers. They may also fear that their children may be handed over to the authority such as the police due to their involvement in the crime. The government agencies such as the police force may also oppose the programs through raising concerns that the program is aimed at exploiting the people through seeking financial support instead of performing its expected role of rehabilitating the youths. These incidences of opposing the project plan tend to be a huge setback towards the achievement of the expected outcome in the society, which in this case is the reduction of crime among the youth.
How you might counteract the opposition's concerns about your plan
Collaborative strategies
This is where those opposing the project plan are invited to work on the project as partners. For example, child welfare agencies should be involved in the implementation of the plan. This will help to ensure that the agency is satisfied with the content or quality of the program such as the outcome of the program and the availability of resources to spearhead the program. The police agencies may also be involved in the implementation of the program to ensure that the program does not deviate from its original or intended focus. This is mainly achieved through involving the police in the programs board meetings for them to be aware of what is happening.
Responding to the opponent's concerns
This counter attracts strategy is particularly effective in responding to the oppositions made by the community members. The first step of responding to the community members is through assuring them that their children are safe while undergoing through the rehabilitation process. Offering assurance to the community helps in calming them and making them believe in the outcomes of the program (Pardini 2016). The community member may also be educated on the importance of rehabilitation the youths and initiating the programs that focus on reducing crime. Educating the community members will be essential for them to see the need for supporting the initiatives.
What might you do if your strategies do not change the opposition's position?
In case the strategies used do not change the opponent's concerns, I will use the adversarial strategy that involves the use of social action to respond to the opponent's concerns. The social action includes the use of court proceedings to bar the opponents from wrongful accusations or opposition. I will also conduct media interviews that intend to emphasize the importance of the application of the project plan.
