Interns are students in their final year in the university where they get the opportunity to work in companies and organizations that offer them the opportunity to work with experienced employees. The work is meant to ensure that the interns gain experience and skills in the area of their specialization. The interns perform the same responsibilities as the employees of the company (Smith, 2019). The interns perform similar functions like those performed by the employees of the company. I persuade employers to pay interns because they work for the company and thus contributes to the production of the organization. Organizations earn profits as a result of the contributions of the interns.
Employers need to pay interns to facilitate the interns meet their personal expenses during the internship period. Interns require basic needs such as shelter, food and transport to and from their place of work. Paying the interns will give them ample time to work and gains skills without having to worry about how they will meet their needs (Bellenfant, 2020). When they are not paid the interns, have to worry about how they will meet their basic needs and thus they will be less productive. The organization will benefit in instances where the employees are active and productive. Paying the intern is not an additional cost for the organization because they contribute to production; hence leaders need to consider paying interns.
Paying the interns alto so helps in motivating the interns to work hard in their internship. The interns remain motivated, and the organizations they work for benefit from their hard work. The interns and the organizations mutually benefit in instances where there is a good working relationship between the interns and the organization (Smith, 2019). Most interns are committed in their work but face challenges meeting their needs and the interns end up not concentrating on their work as interns. Employers should pay their interns to motivate them to work hard in the roles and responsibilities they are assigned. The interns will begin to recognize the importance of working hard when they get rewarded for their hard work.
Interns that get paid by their employers and organization make the intern feel part of the employee team of the organization. There are instances where the interns get absorbed into the organization; hence employers and the interns maintain good relationships with the interns making the intern willing to work with the organization (Bellenfant, 2020). Paying the interns increases the chances of the organization retaining the interns who are trained and qualified to work for the organization. The employers get the opportunity to retain the interns by hiring interns who are qualified and have experience in work. Not paying the interns makes the organizations vulnerable to losing the interns to other companies that pay their interns.
Conclusion
In conclusion, employers should consider paying the interns in the organizations they lead by treating the interns with equity as the rest of the employees working for the organization. Paying the interns both the organization and the interns' benefit; therefore, leaders should consider paying the interns for mutual benefit. Interns get motivated that working hard pays and that they need to have the relevant experience in their line of duty. The payment of the interns does not make companies to incur losses because they contribute to the success of the organization; therefore, employers need to pay interns.
