Introduction

The industrial food scheme in the United States is the dominant production of food. American citizens consume a lot of meat that is produced by farmers and industries. For instance, MC nuggets have influenced the consumption of chicken in the country. Two decades ago, the farmers would sell the chicken as a whole; however, that is not the case currently because they sell it in pieces or nuggets (Foer et al., 2009). The Tyson production manufactures about half of the country’s nuggets. The other meat that is consumed a lot is beef. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the citizens of America consume about seventy pounds of meat annually. However, meat is not consumed a lot by the Americans, and as a result of this, the agricultural firm encouraged the farmers to inject hormones so that thee cattle can look healthy. Despite the efforts, the consumption of beef is still low, and it cannot be sold to the European countries because they banned the use of hormones on cattle.

The keeper of these animals tends to face some challenges. In the case of the chicken growers, they cannot get a loan unless they have already signed a contract with a processing company. In case the chicken grower is not pleased with the processor, he or she does not have the power to do anything (Foer et al., 2009). Other farmers that face challenges are the poultry keepers. In the past, the country had numerous poultry firms, and it was easier to work with a processor; however, that is not the case in the current times because a processor has the power to cancel a contract with the keeper whenever he or she likes.

How Consumption of My Favorite Meal Has Impacted Food Workers, Farmers and Slaughter Workers

My favorite meal is meat. My consumption of meat impacts the workers in different ways. Meatpacking is a dangerous job that currently being done by the cleaning crews at night. Most of these employees are illegal immigrants. They are not given the job by the meatpacking organizations but the sanitation companies (Foer et al., 2009). These employees tend to get an hourly salary that is less as compared to the ones working in the production companies, yet their work is so tricky and horrendous. The individuals that clean the slaughter rooms can be said to be the people that have the most challenging job in the United States of America. It takes a desperate or dedicated individual to perform such a task. The cleaners also get sick due to the fumes; at times, the chemicals spill on them causing some bur. Even, others lose parts of their bodies like the fingers. When the meatpacking companies became, the illegal immigrants always replace more dangerous the skilled personnel.

Omnivore’s Influence on Shaping Our Diets

An omnivore is an animal or human being that eats both animals and plants. The downfall of the meat production started when the owners of ranches began to incur losses and decided that the only way out was for them to sell the cattle. As a result of this, consuming plant products became the norm (Foer et al., 2009). The other reason that made the Americans consider being vegetarians is that they created a relationship between them and the animals, and as a result of this harming them is a crime. Also, they recognized the dangers of eating a lot of meat and that fat is not healthy as it was considered in the past. Due to all these people opted for the vegetables as well.
