Over the last four decades since the first-ever superhero action movie created by Marvel Studios Superman, in 2018, the Superhero movie Black Panther was among the most sold out and in some reviews, the highest-rated movie with 97% by Rotten Tomatoes, 7.3 stars by IMDb (IMBDb). To mention but a few of its impression, the film won three Oscars, 244 nominations and 93 other wins in different platforms (IMBDb). However, this success did not come of a silver plate; in fact, the movie took over 20 years of preparation with shuffling and reshuffling of directors, casts, settings, and concepts (Clarke). Unfortunately, despite the high ratings by Rotten Tomatoes, receiving 7.3 stars out of the possible ten by IMDb was not very encouraging (IMBDb). Therefore, this essay aims to explore the film Black Panther; it is the development and what made differently and received such a high rating.
The film is shot in a small village in Uganda, Africa, called the Wakanda Kingdom. The movie begins with the voice of a young boy asking to be told a story. The adult voice tells a story amount a meteorite that crushed a region of River Nile in Africa millions of years ago and had a unique mineral "Vibranium" that made the vegetation that came into contact with it metamorphose. After a long time, the habitats of the region "Wakanda Kingdom" battled to have control of the mineral. A warrior from the area was led to a heart-like plant that gave him supernatural powers of strength, speed, and intelligence in combat.
In the present day, Prince T'Challa returns home from the USA after the death of his father, King T'Chaka. The events unfold After the events of Captain America: Civil War. Wakanda is an African nation with advanced technology and power from the Vibranium. However, T'Challa soon finds out that his throne is challenged by M'Baku, the leader of the fifth tribe, the mountain-dwelling Jabari. They engage in the ritual tribe for Kingship, and T'challa emerges victorious and spares M'Baku's life. During the crowing of T'Challa, It happens that his cousin Erik Stevens referred to as "Killmonger," and gang leader Klaue interrupt the fight and end up throwing T'Challa off the cliff but survives the fall. Killmonger and Klaue conspire to destroy Wakanda.
T'Challa, who becomes the Black Panther, is a successful detective in the U.S, while Killmonger becomes an arms dealer. They later meet, and Killmonger challenges the Black Panther for the Wakanda throne after learning his father was killed by the King (Clarke).
Several factors Make the film Wakanda Unique, liked, and a fantastic movie to watch. Some of the identified factors have been discussed. Black Panther is an all-black casted movie and is set in a very technologically advanced nation that pretends to be the third world. This setting not only made the people of color feel included in the white society dominated industry, but it also recognized the efforts being made by the African countries in terms of technology and literacy advancements (Clarke).
The second factor is the use of video effects, which gave the movie the Sci-fi effect and made my mind blown. The excessive speed, intelligence, and body power by Black Panther not only made him the Hero of the movie, but it also added life and creativity. The spears used by the Wakanda Warriors and the high-tech research and medical facility were just beyond ordinary human imagination. The future-tech jets used by both the King and T'Challa to travel around took the movie into a whole new level.
The third element that made me find the movie quite enjoyable was the twists of events. Betray, hunger for power, thirst for knowledge, and the fact the force behind Black Panther was a plant were terrific. Whoever, it very ordinary that by taking the same syrup form the Black Panther plant, the Black Panther would lose his powers. Moreover, the fact that the Hero was only a hero with his forces was not such a good idea (Dean). Lastly, the ending of the movie was spectaculars. The Wakanda was able to defeat the intruder. All the five tribes of Wakanda united, and the isolated kingdom opened up to the rest of the world. The movie ends with the newly appointed King T'Challa opening a resource center at Oklahoma, California, where N'jobu was killed (Dean).
Conclusion
In conclusion, Black Panther is a terrific film to watch. The setting, plot, story, and actions all blend to empower the black community and acknowledge the efforts of the African countries. Also, the fact that Black Panther is a black hero depicts the long white-dominated industry is embracing diversity and new talent to address some of the global agendas such as education, technology, medicine, and climate change. The advancement in technology, medicine, and the rich country depicts the predicted future advancement in technology. The use of CGI, VFX, and special effects and sound gives the movie such a unique and lively mood that exaggerate the actions, the overall story, creativity, and blending of themes is such a coherent manner to establish cinematic atmosphere.
