Stone wall uprising is a film released in 2010 about the Americans in a documentary that shows the surrounding events of stonewall riots that took place in 28 June 1969. There is a series of violent demonstrations from gay members (LGBT) against the police raids in the village of Greenwich and the surrounding neighborhood. The police officers made it a routine to raid the gay club and arrest the men present for illicit sexual behaviors. An American gay liberation activist who self-proclaimed himself as a drug queen by the name Marsha P. Johnson led the stonewall riots in 1969. However, George Cecil is the founder of gay movement rights and a campaigner against the oppression of gay community in America.

The Americans experienced a period of violent protests in the streets of New York with harsh treatments of homosexual individuals from medical health workers to the authorities. The American gay were arrested for being homosexual, detained and their licenses were revoked after detention. The patrons who worked in gay bars also received harassment treatment from authorities who raided the clubs in random hours of the night without any specific reason. The American law makers were not happy with homosexual individuals as they viewed gays as an offense in the boundaries of America thus the courts had to punish the offenders of law. The medical health workers experienced a feeling of shame in the gay activities as they believed that homosexuality was an illness that needed to be cured and therefore they employed dangerous treatments to use on gays bodies to cure what they thought was a mental disorder. In general, the American people experienced fear and intimidation from the authorities and especially the gay community.

A research carried out in the America proved that 63% of people felt that homosexuals is harmful to the society, 25% of individuals suggest that homosexual does not bring any harm to the community nor does it help the nation while 10% of Americans did not have any negative or positive feelings towards the gay groups. The groups of civil rights persons record a 25% support to the rights and liberty of gay individuals. The public experienced a period of disruption as the authorities fought with the homosexual men in the streets of New York. A higher percentage of citizens in all the states supported police brutality on gay people with the opinion that it is wrong to be a gay and you either distinguish yourself as male or female and, it is only right to marry a person from the opposite gender.

Conclusion

Through the uprising of Stonewall raids, the Americans embraced the rights of gays in the country and this enabled gay community to open several organizations among them is the famous Human Rights Campaign. Also, when Barack Obama was the president of America, he designated the street where the gays riots took place together with the sidewalks of Christopher Park a national monument in remembrance of the efforts gay community put in liberation of the Stonewall Inn village and the rest of the gays in the world. The queer Americans became proud after the movement and were unashamed of declaring their sexual lives in public. The intimidation and fear of homosexual community reduced, they started coming out in public and they were entitled to equal treatment as the rest of the Americans.
