Introduction

Healthcare demand has been on a steady rise for many years and is predicted to continue rising. Spending on health care has increased due to an increase of preventable illnesses. Obesity, for example, is a preventable condition, but it is widespread in the United States. Obesity, which is a preventable condition, can lead to stroke, diabetes, and heart disease. Obese people only seek medical assistance when the situation escalates to become chronic.

Demand will determine which healthcare goods and services are going to get produced. How healthcare goods and services are going to get made will depend on the number of goods and services required. Once the goods and services are ready for use, only people who can afford manages to access them (Babalola, 2017). The trade-off to only include paying patients is necessary due to economic factors. Producers of healthcare goods and services need to make profits to make the enterprise economically viable.

Healthcare Debate Issues

Arguments on healthcare policies in America fall under two categories: Policies related to health insurance and policies related to spending in the healthcare industry. Insurance policies provide guidelines on how health insurance gets paid for and what the insurance covers (Feidler & Young, 2019). Healthcare policies under spending dictate how healthcare budgets are spent.

Issues arise when healthcare institutions frequently change insurance policies on how American families receive and pay for insurance. Health care institutions have been granted the power to make these changes by the government even if the funds can come directly from the central government.

A mixed economy similar to some European countries in which the government has more involvement in policymaking and running of private institutions has been debated. These would eliminate the changing of policies without oversight.

A central planned economic system in which a central authority, like the government, is in charge of economic policies is a viable solution to the present problems. The success of the Central economic system in Canada has made it an appealing solution.

Personal responsibility should also be encouraged to improve the current economic state of the healthcare sector. Too much money is being spent on preventable illnesses (Davies & Savulescu, 2019). Patients can be held responsible for their poor health by serving penalties like low prioritization for treatment.

Conclusion

The most significant trade-off is that not everyone can afford medical insurance and this means that some people are excluded from the protection of high medical costs. The insurance cover suffers from opportunity cost since insurance cannot cover for everything. Healthcare organizations need to run efficiently, and the patients need to take more responsibility to reduce the cost of running the healthcare industry.
