According to the StrengthsFinder assessment, my five strengths are learner, achiever, arranger, individualization, and focus. My two core values are integrity and humility. In everything I do, ethics and moral principles come first, and I have to be honest with myself even before being honest with others. There is no substitute for moral uprightness in my way of doing things. Humility allows me to view others in appreciation and value their contribution. As a good nurse leader, it must never be a one-person show, but a collaborative effort (Fischer, 2017).

At the core of my leadership personality is being a learner and an achiever. To me, learning continues in every sphere and every situation. At every chance, I am looking for the lesson and trying to learn from the experience. As such, I enjoy working in teams and finding success together. It goes hand in hand with the achiever theme. Productivity is at the epicenter of this character, seeking satisfaction from working hard and succeeding. Learning and achievement are my main themes, and they come with a great deal of intrinsic motivation. I always have to be self-driven in the things I do, and pursuit of excellence and success must never be substituted for anything.

As much as one is a good leader, there are always traces of areas that need strengthening (Crowne et al., 2017). I should improve on my relator and positivity themes. I am concerned about the relator theme because I feel one achieves more in teams than they do individually. The relator theme helps one get deep satisfaction from working as part of a team, which is why I should work on it. On the positivity theme, it is about being generous with the appraisal for others. As much as I get intrigued by their qualities and work, I am not always quick to point it out. It means that I need to complement my individualization theme with the positivity theme to make it worthwhile. Appreciating people sends a deep sense of conviction about their worth to the setup within which they are working (Corder & Ronnie, 2018). It motivates them.

Peer Response 1

The assessment provides one with an insight into the qualities they possess. On a second thought can cite practical examples and agree to the evaluation of the themes that resonate with them. You have thoroughly discussed the five most definite themes from the assessment, but a few things are missing from the post. You should have informed the class about your core values. Personal core values are solid pillars in boosting one’s leadership skills. Other than trying to better your five strongest themes from the assessment, I believe there are different themes in which you were weak and would have loved to strengthen. Do you think being a learner would complement our achiever theme? If one had complimentary items all through, it would make for great leadership.

Peer Response 2

I agree with you that self-awareness plays a significant role in making wise decisions. By taking the assessment, one becomes more self-aware and understands personal leadership traits better. You have an impressive variety of strong themes in your leadership scope, and the areas of focus in your improvement plan will only make you a better leader. Self-assurance is a critical trait. I believe most people would relate to the challenge you have of second-guessing everything they do or have. Self-assurance only comes with confidence in one’s own abilities. Improving on self-assurance is akin to a self-conscious decision to change one’s view of self. You should refer to your past successes, compliments from other people and progress made; from that, you should get the conviction that you have the best abilities, and you can manage the biggest of tasks. With self-assurance, you are guaranteed to succeed in leaps and bounds.
