Introduction
Global warming also referred to as climatic change has been an aspect that has been discussed upon over many years. Many scientists have come up with legit data about global warming hence providing concepts on global warming. Basing on scientific consensus, it has been proved that global warming is a factor of human greenhouse gas emissions (Oreske, 2018). After that, the element of most warming being generated from the human greenhouse is more exaggerated politically and ideologically hence resulting in Scientific Certainty Argumentation Method (SCAM) (Feygina, 2010). Due to the viral spread of SCAM, regulatory action on global warming has been procrastinated worldwide. Therefore, climatic change denial is the dismissal that contradicts scientific agreement on climatic change, and the impact global warming has on the environment or any action that aid in combating climate change.
While denying the legit concepts of scientists on climatic change, individuals carry on campaigns convincing the public not to have trust in the scientists' findings and agreement on global warming through a process which is termed as denialism or pseudoscience, also known as propaganda. Denial machine, which is also a terminology referring the campaigns to the public undermining scientific study on global warming which is organized through political and ideological interests which are then given support by media and skeptical bloggers to come up with propaganda on climatic change (Oreske, 2018).
Global warming denial has impacts on environmental activism, policy-making individuals, and the general public. Basing on the fact that climatic change has some adverse effects on the environment, global warming, therefore, arises discussions that have been there over decades. On general public, under the scientific finding of most of the warming being emitted from human greenhouse gases which include; carbon dioxide and also from the burning of the fossil fuels which are harmful to the health of the general public. Carbon dioxide is detrimental to the health of a normal human being. The United States used both legislative and executive branches to formulate policies for climate change. Climatic change denial has an impact on the policymakers and environmental activists. There is then a big problem between the individuals who are denying climatic change and those accepting it with supporting evidence hence to come to consensus may take a lot of effort.
Literature Review
Politics on global warming have been greatly influencing by climatic change denial and the controversy around climatic change denial. Individuals who propose the idea of global warming disclaimer apply rhetorical language to convince the public. Using the rhetorical tactics to suggest global warming denial makes it seem more significant, but in a real sense, there is no significance in it. The campaigns advocating for global warming denial are associated with conservative economic policies together with industrial interests, which always oppose the regulation of omission of carbon dioxide, which is harmful to human beings and other living creatures.
From late 1970, companies manufacturing oil have been great advocators of global oil denial. Campaigns, therefore, have been carried out by these companies to the public on climatic change denial to benefit themselves (Feygina, 2010). This has made companies like those manufacturing tobacco to continue without any hindrance even though smoking is harmful to the health of the consumer. Pentagon research figures out how climatic change denial is a massive threat to the nations. In the study, more than 164 organizations go for climatic denial in the United States (Oreske, 2018). This amounts to 4,556 individuals who gang up to fight for the climatic change denial. Center for Media and Democracy in the year 2013 reported that (SPN), State Policy Network which is an umbrella for think tank majorly wood individuals on behalf of other cooperate organization to go against climatic change policies (Oreske, 2018). Basing on the discussion, climatic change denial, there are conspiracy theories which try to elaborate on the same issue of global warming denial. The conspiracy theory states that climatologists are in a fever of money; hence, the scientific agreement on climatic change is but an illusory.
Despite the conspiracy existing, there is no substantial evidence to oppose climatic change policies. This is in a fever of the scientists who have come up with evidence explaining the importance of having strategies for climatic change. Around 97 percent of the scientists have agreed on global warming despite the opposition they have from politicians and ideologies. Therefore there have emerged differences between the scientists and politicians and ideologists on the discussion of global warming. There are allegations of Martin Luther King being assassinated by the FBI, who was likely being endorsed to climatic change denial (Feygina, 2010). Jim Inhofe is also profoundly known for climatic change in America. John Barrasso is also associated with climatic change with his statement of climate continually changing, and the role of human activity is not known.
The world is experiencing global warming. Global warming denial then has impacts on various people who include environmental activists, policymakers, and the general public. Individuals are therefore affected negatively on the fat that, global warming is mostly generated by gases from the human greenhouse, which emits carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is harmful to the health of a human being. As a living organism, oxygen is mostly prescribed for respiration, which is responsible for energy production in the bodies of the microorganisms. Since global warming affects mainly negatively the environment, environmental activists have a hard time to fight for a clean and conducive environment. On the side of policymakers, they have a hard time to make and implement laws governing global warming since there is procrastination on the policies concerning climate change due to the campaigns of climatic change denial (Oreske, 2018).
Background Information
The alarm on the emission of carbon dioxide by the greenhouses was raised in the year 1984. Joseph Fourier is known for the interference of the greenhouse effect. More studies have been carried out on the greenhouse effect. In the 1940s, the research was rapidly done on the greenhouse effect. Roger Revelle, in 1957, raised the alarm on the public on the impact of and risks of fossil fuel burning to global warming. Greenhouse effect then reached apogee in1970s, and high awareness was done to the public; hence, conservative measures were to be set up to cub the epidemic; therefore, governmental concerns were to be chipped in. In the presidency of Ronald Reagan in the year 1981; climatic change significantly took a political wing. Immediate actions were made, including the withdrawal of funds to the researchers of global warming and also stopping the investigation of carbon dioxide (Feygina, 2010).
Through Energy James, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan announced that there was no real global warming problem. In the year 1983, the Environmental Protection Agency (EAP) reported that global warming was not a theoretical problem, but it was a real effect which could be facing in a few years. Since then, discussions have risen. Politicians and ideologists have emerged with campaigns of climatic change denial (Oreske, 2018). This has resulted in the top the postponing of the policies that are made.
Arguments have been raised saying that water vapor is emitted more than carbon dioxide gas in greenhouses. It should be noted that water vapor acts just like feedback, but primarily, carbon dioxide is the one with a significant impact on global warming. There is also an argument that global warming has recently ended and global cooling has taken place. When consideration is impacted, the case only considers short term pattern and leave alone long term pattern. Sunspots and cosmic rays are also alleged to be natural causes of global warming. The group siding climatic change denial says that this patterns more so the natural variables which are sunspots and cosmic rays are too hard to be regulated and controlled by human beings. Therefore, more and more need to be done to effect and make affordable changes to global warming.
Global Warming Denial From a Worldwide Perspective
The United States has large numbers which do not believe in the climatic changes. Only 13 percent of the Americans accepted that there is a climatic change in the poll conducted by YouGov-Cambridge Globalism Project. Saudi Arabia and Indonesia had the highest individuals who don't agree on the climatic change, with 16 percent and 18 percent, respectively (Feygina, 2010). It should also be noted that the United States has the highest percent of climatic change deniers. In perplexity, there are individuals in the US who do not understand if global warming is occurring due to natural environmental change or through human activities, including a greenhouse. Scientist on their side says that global warming is on the rise and human activities are responsible with the greenhouse being counted among the most affecting factors.
UN global assessment report warned against million species being at risk due to global warming, which is mostly caused by human activities. Due to selfness of some individual who is money-oriented and wants to benefit for their own, climatic change denial have still the popularity of which many people are being convinced through the rhetorical tactics the deniers use to explain their concepts. Koch brothers and fossil fuel industry is at the front line to advocate for global warming denial, which is submitting over one million species at risk (Feygina, 2010). The Koch brothers have extended their tactics until they produce literature and even send to teachers and lectures at school. Via this many people are convinced.
In Europe, some fewer people agree on climatic change (Oreske, 2018). Poland is the highest country with 12 percent of the people not conforming to climatic change. In the UK, there have been increments in the number of individuals who agree on the climatic change. This has resulted in the UK government in coming out with policies that regulate greenhouse effect and emission of carbon dioxide. Even if it is not reduced to zero but a reduction in the discharge of carbon dioxide in the greenhouse could help in helping to conserve the environment (Feygina, 2010).
Future Perspective
Skeptical Science is for the side of climatic change denial. It criticizes any evidence that makes human activity to be the cause of global warming. This body has gotten popularity and will continue to gain popularity based on its argument. It will be hard then to combat global warming is this body continues to campaign. It should be considered that coal also emits carbon dioxide. Due to the demand and the market forces of the products made from coal, the products will still be manufactured at a high rate resulting in more emission of carbon dioxide. Therefore, coal and other industries will side global warming denial to continue to benefit. Ideologists, on the other side, are increasing their efforts on proposing global warming denial. Reducing the notion then may take a lot of energy. In Uk, ideologists have impacted a section of religion, small government advocates and social groups of which have an impact on the general public. Value for money by the secular government is at a high rate; hence stopping them is not easy.
Conclusion
Global warming denial has been a discussion over decades. There is controversy over global warming with scientists providing evidence of the existence of the climatic change while other groups in...
