Introduction

The debate whether marijuana or pot (as is commonly known around the streets) should be legalized or not is a debate as old as the drug itself. People for years have battled it, and it looks like, despite their efforts, the drug is flourishing, maybe even more than ever before. The drug causes a lot of psychological problems such as aggression, mood change, and addiction. But, despite the drug being popular, why do the folk around despise it that much? Statistics show that deaths caused by the drug are not as frequent as those caused by car crashes or by other drugs so why are people ever so on the front line against it? Research also goes to compliment on the fact by showing people only die of marijuana not because of the drug itself but rather the activities they conduct when under its influence (Wilmot, 2017). Although Marijuana has economic and medical benefits, it this paper will argue why it should not be legalized because of the adverse health effects it has on individual bodies.

In today's world, the issue of marijuana become an issue to be handled by the majority of the stakeholders in the economy, and the nation has not been given a chance to agree on any decisions involving legalization of marijuana due to the socio-economic factors associated with the plant. At the same time, pot is getting more and more popular in the world, and people are clamoring for its legalization. In fact, research done in America showed that the percentage of people who wanted it to be legalized was only 29% in 1979, but as from last year, the number shot up to 65% (Jennifer De Pinto, 2017). One primary issue of legalization is because of the nature of the youths who go rogue and indulge themselves in the smoking of marijuana in their adolescent stage. This later affects them after long-term use whereby their health, social life, and safety deteriorates due to drug dependence and addiction in school. This is a huge setback for the upcoming generations which needs further research and better analysis of the actual effects of marijuana on the brain that may result in psychosis in some users. In my remediation, I plan on using a poster that will encourage the youth on how to be more sensitive to the negative effects of marijuana on individual, society, and economy of the country.

One way of doing this is by using posters because they are a great method to spread information and get almost everyone. I will use statistics and written texts on the adverse effects such as addiction, laziness, psychotic disorders, and even death that are caused by leisure use of the drug (Dusaj 44). I will also outline Marijuana medical benefits and encourage people to only allow its use in medical institutions during surgery as a pain reliever. So, I believe by creating a poster that will quickly grab the attention of many targeted groups. According to Hess (358), the visuals will allow for them to instantly recognize this behavior that has been seen and the short message I will provide under each picture will be used as awareness. This is because the poster will have the power to drive most of the people's attention to it through relevant pictures like a dead body, property crime, violent crime, homicides, money, jobs that I plan to include.

Texts like "legalizing marijuana is not a solution, but the problem," "10.6% less property crime," "5.6% less violent crime," "60% fewer homicides" added below the respective will be explaining more of the photos to the extent that a reader feels bored. Besides, I will ensure that the images convey the intended message even without one having to read the entire text. This may make the individual wanting to give up along the way when expected to read a long document (Dusaj 44). The poster will thus be an appropriate medium to remediate the previously presented communication.

The primary aim is to sensitize the audience about the effect of marijuana and to create awareness that if the drug is legalized, there will be many problems in the country. After viewing my remediation, I hope people will take time to analyze the effects of marijuana before they make it a legal substance. I also want them to realize that the demerits of the substance outweigh the merits and, for that reason, is it is worth it or not to bring change in the perception that people have based on the legalization of marijuana. The visuals will serve as the directing force for the audience to read my argument on the topic. The audience will be able to see the extent to which the use of the drug has caused many problems in the society.

Probably they might consider its implications to pose great threats to the health of the human beings. I have included some benefits of the use of the given drug just to make a comparison on why I am against the legalization of the given drug. By further covering the many disadvantages of its use, the audience will have the opportunity to see that its disadvantages outweigh its desirable impacts on the society. Consequently, my role in the poster will convince the audience against accepting the idea to legalize the drug and maybe only use it in the recommended areas like a hospital setting (Goodhand 140).

Conclusion

In conclusion, the use of a poster will give me the opportunity to convey the intended message effectively to the targeted audience. This is because poster as a medium of communication allows a proper presentation of information in a manner that has the potential to grab the attention of the readers. As a result, I will achieve this with limited text in the media and accompany it with adequate visual aspects of communication. Usually, human beings will mostly interact with what is more appealing to the eye, so they may not have the time to a document made of text only. The use of this poster was, therefore, a strategic way through which I will ensure that my stance about the legalization of marijuana is well understood and create a considerable change to the audience. In so doing, I expect message containing the relevant pictures and the accompanying text to let people know that legalization of marijuana will mean severe adverse effects on the society. In consequence, I will have succeeded in communicating effectively through a poster in my remediation.
