Introduction
There are different types of protests ongoing. Nonviolent resistance also referred to as peaceful protests are the first type of protest whereby the protesters do not use violence. In this type of protest, people express their feelings of disapproval with the use of actions. One such protest demonstrated by the youth in Kalamazoo who protested for Black Lives Matter (MLive. 2020). The peaceful protests are conducted in the following methodologies. One of these is the participating in a march as demonstrated by the youth in Kalamazoo. The second method is through the display of specific symbols that display the purpose of the protest. The use of flyers also demonstrates a peaceful protest are giving them to other individuals.
Boycotting
The boycotting of purchase of products is the other form by which nonviolent resistance is done. The peaceful protests are beneficial as they are associated with more participation from the public and are associated with a higher degree of success. The peaceful protests are also associated with decreased risk factors. Such is because they are peaceful and therefore decrease the probability of getting hurt. The protests also demonstrate more levels of organization because they have a calm approach (MLive. 2020).
The violent protect are the second type of protests. This type of protest is associated with the use of a lot of force and is marked by increasing levels of destruction of property. These protests are associated with a violent encounter between the law enforcement officials and the protesters. An instance of this seen in the rallies at the Justice Center in Portland (The Oregonian, 2020). Such kind is also observed in the protest that occurred at the Boise City Hall. This kind of protest might also lead to the loss of lives of the protesters. This type of protest is associated with a higher rate of failure in comparison to the peaceful protests.
Racial Equality
The Black Lives Matter (BLM) is a movement that signifies the need for racial equality. Such is the case because they are mainly known to fight against the discriminations demonstrated by the police against the black people ((Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p.133). These forms of discrimination lead to the death of these individuals as a result of actions from the police. An instance of this is in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2012. The movement is fighting against different issues, such as the different oppression levels that different groups face. Such groups include the female gender, the undocumented refugees, the disabled, and LGBTQ individuals. Some individuals disagree with the BLM activists because of the following factors. First, they claim that the group is a threat rather than a solution because of its confrontational nature. They also claim that it lacks a sense of direction (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p. 133).
I am not surprised by the increased number of protests ongoing. Such is because of the increased levels of racism and hate that lead to the death of black people. The actions, therefore, lead to the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. These protests aim at advocating for people of color and other ethnicities. Such is because the United States is a country comprised of a wide variety of individuals belonging to different races and ethnic groups. The protests are crucial in eradicating the racial inequalities existing.
Conclusion
Such exists because one ethnic group believes they are more superior to others and therefore practice discrimination against the individuals ((Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p. 125). Black Lives Matter is especially fighting Institutional discrimination. It is a form of discrimination whereby the social and political institutions are responsible for practicing discrimination. In this case, the law enforcement officers that are part of the social institutions are responsible for the discrimination.
