The music engineering section has always been an industry that has always influenced our lives especially the lives of children. Due to this factor this factor there has always been the need to regulate what type of music children listen to. To efficiently do so, in the year 1985, parents in the United States of America formed a committee known as the Parent Music Resource Center (PMRC). This committee aimed at increasing parents control to restrict children from listening to music believed to have drug-related, sexual and violent themes by labeling albums with parental advisory stickers. The PMRC has been active from the year 1985 to the late 1990s. On the other hand, the music industry has also at one time had a trade organization that was known as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The members of this trade organization consisted of re-known record labels and distributors. The initial mission of RIAA was to ensure that they took charge recording copyright charges and problems and also work with corresponding trade unions to carry out research related to the industry and also state laws affecting the music industry. In the course of its operations, RIAA added onto its missions by also aiming at protecting intellectual property rights. Both RIAA and PMRC were always on their toe to ensure they achieved their objectives.
The primary objective of PMRC was to enable parents to take control over the music content their children were listening to. This aim was once confirmed by Mitch Bainwol, CEO, and Recording Industry Association of America through his speech. In his speech, he stated how music is a tremendous tool for fostering dialogue and understanding across generations. This committee put all its effort to achieve its primary objective even at some point it started to influence parents into questioning the type of music they children were listening to. Parents were influenced to ask their children questions such as why do they like a particular album. And what do they think that the musicians are implying with the words they use. When these chances to talk openly arise, parents, kids, and music are best served. I believe that this committee achieved its objectives during the kickoff but in the long run, failed as the parent advisory stickers increased the curiosity of children to listen to this particular music. This was a failure, and it led to the collapse of this committee in the early 1990s as labeling music albums only drew attention to them increasing their concern.
On the other hand, RIAA has been effective and efficient in its operations, and thus they have been able to achieve their aim of ensuring that they took charge recording copyright charges and problems and also work with corresponding trade unions to carry out research related to the industry and also state laws affecting the music industry. This trade organization received support from the government because it had other minor objectives such as generating standard music content that was acceptable and morally upright. This particular trade union has been successful from way back then. Its success can be measured regarding how effective they have been to accomplish their objectives. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has achieved its aim as it ensures that no sexual and violent themes are exhibited in music albums they record. This is undoubtedly a success.
