The film was released in 2001 and it received positive reviews from critics.
Communication competence fidelity means that people understand and are faithful to the language. Serena "I am not going formal with you." These words are directed to Jeremy by Serena and they indicate that Serena does not understand the language. This is because the words make Jeremy slink off as Margot arrives. Serena to improve this needs to communicate in a language that does not agitate other characters and which is friendly.
Ethics before Elle goes to the law school, she seemed to a stereotypical sorority girl. On the contrary when he joins college, she finds that things are different from what she was used to or expected. She is forced to adapt to the new settings for her to be taken seriously. This is a crucial evidence that in the movie that the ethics in communication is not followed as the characters are forced to adapt to new communication methods which there are not used and affect their character. The only way to improve this is for the characters to remain true to the norms they are used to and things they understand.
Effectiveness mean the goal intended is achieved. There is a scene were Margot says "Can someone please tell Rick that he is not the only Sigma Chi with a big penis?" The choice of words is not adequate as they are meant as insult. The character can improve by using the correct choice of words to pass the message.
Efficiency means few words are used to pass the message effectively. Elle says "He's proposing! I cannot look like I would on any date. This is the date. The night I'll always remember. I want to look special. Bridal . . . but not like I suspect anything." In this case Elle uses a lot of words which indicate that she is not which shows not efficiency.
Satisfaction is where people communicating are satisfied with how the conversation is going on. In the movie Elle's internship advisor Callahan makes sexual advances one her. He tells her that he was impressed by her performance at the courtroom and he encourages her to purse her dreams. It is evident that he is not only motivating and interested on her intelligence but because she I beautiful. This can be improved if people Callahan stayed professional and not make any advances on Elle that are not based on her work.
Conclusion
Appropriateness this is where people have to follow the correct norms that are set by the society. For instance, Vivian and Harvard displays a more masculine character and qualities resulting to people at the college taking her serious. This prompts Elle to change her character for people to take her serious. This can be improved if people can be more careful on the things they decide to take or copy from others.
