Introduction

"The Tall Woman and her Short Husband' is a perfect illustration of discrimination and prejudice to an individual that does not grasp the damaging nature of it. In addition, the story demonstrates the pointless, unhealthiness, and immorality of discrimination. The cultural revolution of China is the setting of the story whereby individuals that did not fit in were suspected and often disliked (Feng, 1985). They were to be accused as natural enemies and always ended up imprisoned or missing if they did not strictly align to their peers.

In the story, the odd couple moves in and promptly individuals appear to be surprised. Initially, the persons are curious about them though the curiously becomes unhealthy when negative assumptions are evident. The wife of the tailor is the key instigator of abhorrence towards the couple, notifying persons that the inability to be with a child is the main motivating factor keeping them together. When Mrs Tall has a child, justifying the wife of the tailor wrong, she proceeds to articulate that the former is a gold digger as Mrs Short s more financially dependent than her. Ultimately, Mr Short is falsely blamed of anti-revolutionary norm in spite of the lack of proof and he is confined later, Mrs Tall is thoroughly interrogated and publicly humiliated by the wife of the tailor with inquires such as "Why would you marry him?" and "What has he bought you?" that she typically disregards, as Mr Short's name was stained she was thrown from her flat and substituted houses with the wife of the tailor in exchange for a small household. The wife of the tailor notifies each individual that as Mrs Tall does not actually love him, she surely will remain unmarried for just one year.

Mrs Tall justifies her wrong by preserving by herself showcasing the strength of her relationship with Mr Short. The latter returns home with Mrs Tall but she has fallen sick and appear to have shrunk whereas Mr Short seems to be bigger than before, she carries on to have health complications and Mr Short loyally helps her in everything he can, taking care of her to his ability.

The neighbors are sympathetic of the couple in spite of the hardships they previously plunged them through after the death of Mrs Tall. After the demise of his wife, the assets and confiscated resources of Mr Short were returned to him after his lasting battle with the law. As Mr Short was wealthy, the neighbors predicted that he would find a new companion with his money and his colleagues suggested similar thing to him though he declined (Feng, 1985). The wife of the tailor that earlier denounced him attempted to connect him with her niece to take advantage of hos money though he is not interested as his love for Mrs Tall remained story despite the latter passing away.

As Mr Short walks through the neighborhood, the neighbors become sad when they observe him walking with the umbrella held high for Mrs Tall whenever he walks in the rain. The neighbors feel that life is no longer the same in the absence of the odd couple. Arguably, the love between Mr Short and Mrs Tall remained strong till the last minute. In spite of everyone around them discriminating them against them as they were distinct, they disregarded them and proceeded with their life, even when Mr Short was confined without any substantial reason, they still proved strong. The neighbors regret victimizing then in the end, they judged the couple merely as they were physically distinct and presumed negative things for no other argument though they were justified wrong once he couple love one another till the last minute.
