Introduction
Have we ever wondered more profound about our modern life, and what controls it? The first factor that might pop up in someone's mind is social media. Presently, we cannot ignore the undeniable fact that social media is taking over the whole world as everyone consider it as the prime stage of receiving any information about others. Moreover, it is indeed making the world easier, but taking into account what responsibilities are applied with that, thus, how we distinguish between the benefits and the negatives is not clear for the multitudes. Therefore, the need for demonstrating the advantages is not as crucial as the negatives, because preventing falling in the risks would establish a clean social media interaction for the users.
Social media has been grown at a very high rate the past couple of years, and just like any other thing, it was created to be used for good or bad. However, the correct usage is mostly between the user's hands, and it could be a disaster for who's completely ignorant about how to use it. Moreover, intentionally or unintentionally, it still might harm the users as everyone knows that we do not have direct access to any of the servers that hold tons of information about the individuals, including you and me.
There is a need to minimize the usage of social media by creating an outside world for one to be safe and also reduce self-harm. Most people in social media have adopted a lifestyle where they fake a luxurious lifestyle online, which affects other people. Technological developments have greatly affected communication technologies across the world. Such progress has enhanced the creation, circulation, and the use of false and fake information (Humphries, 2016). Social media has affected a large pool of people in their urge to share ideas across the world on various issues affecting them, unlike in the past where it was genuine to share ideas. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube have affected most relationships as they are associated with negativity in most instances.
People need to understand what is happening near them by listening to other's views and ideas. The applications installed in the various smartphone can correct the grammar mistakes made in the process of conversing hence improving message delivery and understanding among the people but in the long run, making the users dumber. It would have been great if excessive usage of online social platforms was reduced for people to reevaluate themselves (Fayaz, 2016). One's value of life is undermined, resulting in anxiety and low levels of self-esteem.
Moreover, social media alters with the behavioral being of its addicts, which results in psychological addictions. These kinds of people are inspired by the sensation they will get optimistic feelings after having gotten themselves involved in harmful behaviors. The wicked actions affect a person's relations with others, leading to depression and inner suffering. Most of the young people who use social media platforms tend to live a fake life to impress their peers. Children in schools tend to lie about themselves so as they can attract a large pool of fans to their side (Humphries, 2016). Teenagers lie about gender, age, and essential characteristics that matter in life that would allow then behave differently in a given setup. Most of the internet operators have developed excessive dependence on the internet to the extent that they cannot think on their own in the process of conversing.
It is almost impossible for the current generation to live without social media in the modern generation. Many users depend on social media in their day to day lives. People have found themselves in situations where they have exposed their privacy to the public, which has endangered their lives. Uncontrolled and too much use of social media platforms has led to internet dependence and cause social and psychological problems among users (Constantinou, 2015). Too much usage of online platforms leads to internet addiction, which has affected many people across the world. Internet addiction is defined as a severe emotional reliance on the use of present technology. People will always want to share pictures so that online users can appreciate them.
Conclusion
In some instances, some teens hidE their identity away from their parents and continue enjoying access to certain information that might harm them. Most of the adult sites require one to sign in, and conform is of age to access certain information. The children hence can lie in such circumstances and get to access such sensitive information. The adults will find it difficult to verify such information being provided to such sites. As a result, the healthy growth of these children is hindered, as in most cases, and there is a lack of accountability and responsibility towards the activities of such teens. Social relations among people also are affected as they spend much time on their phones during meaningful conversations. Also, social media usage may make the children start emulating the harmful behaviors they see online in relating to their parents and peers.
