Introduction
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" has a lot of the formal element of realistic with the traditional novels, Garcia Marquez's novel has not left out any depiction of violence and sex, the novel is much concerned with violence and sex issues and directly addresses the political regime trends and the social issues. The tone of the novel and the events are much difficult to differentiate and say it is a fiction, the vents that are portrayed in the novel matches the tone used by the author. The vents in the novel that seems magical represent what Garcia sees as reality, the novel describes the unique reality that the Latin Americans are caught on between the modernity and the pre-industrialism that is triggered with the civil war and the revenge of the imperialism. The complexation starts to begin when what seems too incredible is seen as commonplace for both the author and the readers of the novel, the hometown of Garcia begins to experience massacre like that of the workers in Macondo. What Garcia thinks to be real life, horror and the beauty starts to be fantasy and beautiful at once, the novel creates and captures what real life is and the novel grants myths both the biblical and indigenous Latin American as facts and much credible. The novel's reality is that it brings the unity between the surreal and the real, the novel asserts that the magic exists and is as real as relevant, as the present, powerful and what we normally take as the reality.
The characterization of the novel is much confusing and needs much attention to analyze, the first generation consists of Buendia family members all the men in the Buendia family members are named Arcadio or Aureliano and the females are named Ursula, Amaranta or Remedios. Jose Arcadio Buendia who is the founder Macondo and a man of great strength with much curiosity and full of knowledge that later brings him to the end of his life, speaks the Latin that only the priest can understand. He has a family member he is married to Ursula Iguaran and the father of Jose Arcadio. Ursula has tried to live well over the hundred years, she has preserved the family for the next generations to come and when things are not normal she brings back things to their normal states, she cares much about the family and she is always in the frontline to make sure that the family members are both emotionally and physically stable at all the times. Jose Arcadio Buendia pushes his family members to modernity and if he looks back at the ancient magic and compares it to his modernity then he hastens Macondo where he was the founder which is Eden like state.
The curse to the family comes after Jose Arcadio Buendia thinks that he has discovered a way forward to create perpetual motion something that is impossible and he goes insane, he is convinced that the day continues to repeat itself over and over all the times. His discovery of the perpetual motion has a deep knowledge that no one can withstand and could only exist in the world where there is no time. Ursula is a strong woman all the time her decedents are embroiled to wars that could weaken the family but still, her family was strong regardless of the wars that were going on during her times. At a times it forced Ursula to be hash and kicked everybody out of the house just to keep the family strong, the fear she had to the incest made her made the family together with the help of her contradictory characters but she is afraid that the incest will bring a disaster to the family.
The Macondo is formed with many expectations but this is not seen at all across the novel, town after being formed and different forms of modernity invented still there was no peace in the town as more deaths were still witnessed in the town. War erupts after elections due to the rigging of the elections that claimed several lives. Jose goes insane and only able to speak French and this makes the family members kill him, the national army of Colombia kills more people in town due to the good economy of the town but because of the political tumult in the country mass killing is done.
At the end of the novel, Macondo becomes a ghost resembling town with only very few members of the Buendia lineage left, Amaranta Ursula and her nephew Aureliano. Fernanda hides his lineage and does not want people to know he later meets his mother and without knowing they are related they fall in love and due to the parent genetic resemblances they give birth to a child with a pig-like tail. Amaranta dies while giving birth leaving behind the born eaten by the aunt, Aureliano is the only member of the family that survived
The reality and the magic in the novel include facts but at some point, they looked opposite, both perspectives are used by the author to convey the message on the conce3ption of the world. The reality from the novel is presented as if it is not from the world by an observer but as an individual with different backgrounds, from all the events that we have witnessed happening to the Buendia lineage one, can conclude that the family is cursed.
