The Major Theme

Theme of LOVE

It is evident that the theme of Love dominates in the story. To begin with, on page 119 Denver and beloved changed beds and exchanged clothes walk arm in arm a smiled all the time, clearly indicating that there is love between the two because it is through love that individuals interact freely to the above-illustrated extent. Also, Denver showed Beloved love by serving .she cooks, washes and cajoling her mother to eat a little now and then gives sweet things for beloved as often as she could to tranquil her down.

Secondly, Paul D demonstrates the theme of love when he head hurts, suddenly he recalls Sixo trying to define what he felt about the thirty -mile woman, and "she is a friend of my mind. She gathers me, man. The pieces I am, she gathers them and gives them back to me in all the right order. It is good you know when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind."

Sethe further builds on the theme of love when he says "you got more yesterday than anybody and me. We need some tomorrow." He further leans over the woman of his choice and takes her hand. With the other, he touches her face and tells her you are the best thing as his holding fingers are holding hers.

The Theme of Evil Possession

The theme of evil possession is clearly illustrated on page 125; it was hard to know what beloved would do from minute to minute when the heat got hot, she might walk around the house naked or covered in a sheet, her belly bulging like a winning watermelon. Beloved is also seen to sit, ate and went from bed to bed and sometimes she screamed RAIN! RAIN! And she clawed her throat in anticipation of rubies of blood to unlocked there and prepared her skin brighter by midnight. Other times beloved curled up on the flow, her wrist between her knees and stayed there for hours or would go for the creek. This is a clear indication that there are some elements of evil possession on Beloved (Nouwen, 2016).

The Theme of Change

Joshua built on the theme of change when he failed to kill as opposed to what he would have done. Joshua goes ahead to say but I should I have, I did not have the patient I have now. This is an indication of change because if Joshua were not patient, he would have gone ahead and kill like in the past.

The Theme of Hypocrisy

Beloved portrays the theme hypocrisy when she who is expected to show love to others as the name suggests slammed things, threw salt on the ground and broke window panes. To add on this Denver plans to go and seek help elsewhere simply because Beloved is not willing and does not care.

There is also the theme of; hatred, Rivalry, and Bitterness.

The Passage That Evokes Strong Emotion

There are some passages which evoke strong feeling like; "me, and you got more yesterday than anybody. We need some tomorrow." Sethe further leans over the woman of his choice and takes her hand (McDonald, 2013). With the other, he touches her face and tells her you are the best thing as his holding fingers are holding hers.
