Introduction
Leadership is a virtue found all over the various genres of life, and it is the mother of a leader. A leader is a person who shows the way and the other follow. There are different characteristics of a leader described by various writers of different books. To be a leader, one can learn, or one can be born with the ability to lead. There is a huge difference between a leader and a manager because a manager gives orders while a leader shows the way forward. Leadership attributes can be termed as the components that make a leader. This essay will cover the main qualities of an army leader and what makes a good army leader.
There are four main components of an army leader: character, presence, intellectual capability, and army values. All these combined make up a complete leader in the army who can lead in a war or any function in the army (Zaccaro, Dubrow & Kolze, 2018).
Character
Character entails a combination of personal thinking on their right, morals, and the army's legalities. Charter also entails the process by which a person is rated depending on the way they behave when they are in public and when they are in private. There is a difference in characters in which one is termed a bad character, while the other is called a bad character. The relationship that an army leader may have with his or her seniors or the juniors is significant because it is used to rate them as good or as a bad leader. There is a set of the Soldiers Rules which govern the people as they are in the camp or when they are at war, and it helps them build a character. Integrity is another component of a character that helps them maintain a good reputation and ensures that their actions are never questioned by any of the other army members, both the high and the junior ranking members. Trust also falls under this sector where one can be trusted with their life, the life of others, and also can be presumed to be armed in the army (Zaccaro, Dubrow & Kolze, 2018).
Presence
When a leader leaves the army, what matters is what they have left behind, and what can be followed by the others who will come after him or her. What they leave with, the badges, and the number of awards does not matter, but the impact they will have on those who come after them is what is termed as the presence. Something can be shown that they were here, and they worked conquered and made a significant impact on the life of the others. Those who come after them can be able to follow the ideas or the theory used by such a leader to be able to succeed in army life. Also, presence can mean the physical act of being around, especially during different times, such as the parade, training, or any other activity in the army. Timely appearance on such occasions is also significant and highly valued in the army leadership (Zaccaro, Dubrow & Kolze, 2018).
Intellectual capability
Intellectual capability determines how good or how fast or how well a leader or a person can think and negotiate through a task that requires critical thinking. Intellectual capability also entails the process and the speed of solving problems, the creation of solutions for the problem, and making the decision itself. When a person is an intellect, they think before they can execute a function even if they are sure of such a function. The strength and the limitation of a person are noted by the way they undertake tasks and the capability of executing such tasks to bring about a product outcome. When a leader is a side to be intellect, this earns that they can be able to adapt and adopt any situation that comes their way. In the army, there is mercy and execution as a leader, there are times when intellectuality is needed to help one to decide to execute or have compassion. Also, it helps them to think about deescalating stress in case of crime or suicide (Taylor, Psotka & Legree, 2015).
Army Values
These are the rules that need to be followed and which are taught in the army, and everyone needs to have them to be a leader either in the military or outside. They include a duty to fulfill all the work assigned or obligations, respectful, a leader should also be selfless and offer selfless service, and in short, they should put others' welfare first. Honor is that other factor that helps the leader to be respected by the others. A leader in the army is also courageous as they have to lead the others in war or in any activity that others cannot e able to do (Taylor, Psotka & Legree, 2015).
Conclusion
In conclusion, a leader is a person who takes care of others without expecting anything back. In the army, everyone is called a leader because the comrades have to mind the business of the other comrade and take care of them. Everyone takes care of the other persons back both on the battlefield and outside the battlefield.
