Introduction

Johari Window is a crucial tool devised by psychologists Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham for helping people understand themselves and view life as it is. As provided in the figure above and by Levin (2016), it is based on four panes, which include open self, blind self, hidden self, and unknown self. Besides, according to open self, people around me have severally expressed themselves regarding my honesty. I also know I am an honest person in all my dealings. For instance, I had a situation of doing some shopping within my neighborhood, and the dealer wanted me to pay almost half of what I had taken. The situation was very tempting, and I had financial difficulties during the month. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, I told him to recount my bill and realized he had deflated. Since then, he nicknamed me honest. As regards outgoing, I am the kind of person who will enjoy discussing issues with people. My friends tell me I am fun to be with and I enjoy it too. I have had a situation of leaving a party at home to join my friends for camping due to the company I enjoyed and the talks we could have together.

The blind self-part involves matters that are unknown to me by other people. For instance, my parents, friends, and people around me understand me as a person who is not easily influenced but makes personal decisions. I remember a time my peers decided we would go clubbing. I analyzed the enjoyment and benefits and made a decision not to join them no matter how entertaining it would be if we went out. Out of the 10 of us, I was the only one who refused to go because I felt the environment would not help me in any way. I did not know that I am not easily influenced until a close friend of mine told me so. Besides, I did not know I have a bad temper until my friend informed me and narrated various instances. I was reminded about several times that I have had to walk away angrily from the group when we fail to agree on a discussion. I thought it was just a normal thing.

The hidden self revolves around aspects that are known to self but not to others. For instance, I am a very secretive person, but most people think I am an open book. I have a secret regarding my childhood that influences my life that I cannot disclose. Secondly, I had a problem of high temper in my childhood, and it could be the reason why some people think it still remains though I did not think so before. Besides, I used to fight a lot in my childhood and did not allow anyone to wrong me without fighting back. Unknown self involves aspects that oneself does not know about as well as others. I had a conversation regarding this aspect with a friend, and he wanted us to talk about our private life. I could not say a word about it, and we were left wondering whether that could be part of my unknown self. We fell out, and the following day I still managed to help him with some finances because he wanted to settle some bills, and I was left wondering whether I liked helping people.

The major aspect that I would want to deal with is blind self of hot temper. I have handled it before but will consider evaluating myself afresh. That said, I am proud that people agree that I am honest. Generally, I have personal weaknesses and strengths, and I believe I will be working on improving my flaws while safeguarding my powers.
