Introduction
The industrial revolution was the most profound in human history due to its ability to change human lives. The speed witnessed in technical innovations brought about new tools and machinery and lots of practical improvements sectors of labor, production, and resource use (National Geographic Society, 2020). The element of inventions and innovations cannot be overlooked in the industrial revolution. The sense of ever-quickening change and the technological innovations has been there through the industrial revolution and is still going on. The merger of technology and industry in the revolution may have quick-started the journey towards a global economy long ago. This is as a result of every single innovation changing every man's activity along industrial lines, as he fashioned new industries (Van der Kooij, 2017).
New methods of transportation played a significant role in the industrial revolution era. The new techniques opened up world markets to producers, as they were able to transport goods and services to various destinations for consumers to access them easily. This was a result of the development of safer, faster, and cheaper transportation means around the globe. It began by digging canals that would create maritime corridors that would link Europe and North America to ensure the efficient delivery of products to the market. High-pressure steam engines came in and powered railroad locomotives that spread across the world in the upper half of the 19th century (Van der Kooij, 2017). The new methods of transportation have hastened the global economy by ensuring that distant consumers are reached and supplied with the goods. These means are engine trains, cargo and passenger planes, and electric ships that traverse the world supplying goods and services.
New energy sources are a significant player in industrial revolution days. Britain’s industrialization was accelerated by the coal-steam engine that brought about dynamics that were decisive in the revolution. Pumping water from the coal mines used steam-power (Pezzey & Lu, 2017). Thanks to the work of James Watt and Mathew Boulton toward the end of the 18th century, steam power engines became the most effective sources of energy for the British industries and entire Europe (National Geographic Society, 2020). This made manufactures to start shifting factories and industries to rapidly growing urban centers as they no longer needed water power. The developments in the energy sector and energy sources have seen industries grow at a faster rate, leading to more production and hence the global economy.
