Immigration is an issue that shall continue to be debated in different US elections including that of 2016. It is factual that several persons from different parts of the world follow the right processes when migrating to the US. Even though there have been allegations that a small number of people are using illegal means to enter the US, necessary measures have been put in place to ensure all illegal immigrants are deported back to their nations. Economists are interested in immigration due to two issues: the advancement of immigrants in the USA economy and the impact of immigration on the labor market. It must be emphasized that labor markets normally change; they are usually shifting toward a new equilibrium.
Since the labor market is affected by second-order effects and short-run effects, reliant on the adjustment speed in the market, can at some time fail to detect changes. There are two vital areas for a study on the labor force and immigrants (Edmonston, 1999). Firstly, thorough work is needed on nature and bounds of labor markets. Labor markets have transformed significantly recently, presenting a transformation framework for migrants. City labor markets are currently a dominant aspect for immigrants, yet there is no idea of the edges of city labor markets and how city labor markets operate. Secondly, issues of ethnic groups exist in the labor markets (Edmonston, 1999). This is because some of the immigrants come from different ethnic groups where dominant ones marginalize others. To this end, this paper discusses the labor market and immigration as the main issues to be debated at the 2016 Presidential elections in the United States and the direction taken to solve the specific problems mentioned.
