Introduction
The society is given the freedom to choose behaviors that they will engage in. The actions that usually follow may be acceptable or unacceptable to the society. This implies that the society has set a number of standards that are supposed to guide people's actions and determine what is right to do and what is not. Generally, these standards are set by the principles of morality passed over the generations. Morality, in this case, refers to systems or norms formed within a society that tends to control people's actions and thoughts and try to help people to cohabitate with each other well. Morality plays a number of important functions within the society. As a result, this research proposal will investigate how morality tends to affect the society and its inhabitants.
Morality reinforces human values within people. For people to coexist within the same environment, they need to have a common agreement on various factors. The human values are indispensable within the world since it helps people decide how to act. Therefore, the society gets to gain values like good, bad, right, wrong, important or unimportant things in life (Copp, 2001). In fact, people can be able to make choices and decisions when faced with dilemmas and compromising situations. The human values lead people to become more considerate of other people's welfare; therefore, people can gain positive attitudes towards situations and conditions facing people. As a result, the morality clearly influences people's values and allows people to understand some of the important principles in life meant to help the universe to govern itself effectively.
To the society, morality dictates what is right to do and the things that are wrong. For any action that the society or the movers try to do in the society, they must question the means used to determine if it is right or wrong. Some of the times, the society has felt that it is important not to engage in some of the behaviors despite the fact that some people may be in support of it. For example, the society has rejected cloning of human beings in the world. Most of the people believe that such an action directly defies God's work to the world. Cloning human beings could cause discontent and unrest among the people. Society has also questioned people's authority to engage in abortion. Morality, in this case, disallows people to engage in behaviors that are deemed to be wrong.
In addition, the morality in the society streamlines the behavior of corporations. For the sake of competition, most of the organizations engage in output maximizing behaviors that are not considerate of the laborers or any other stakeholders (Zairi & Peters, 2002). For example, the laborers may end up overworked and underpaid while the others are made to work under deplorable conditions that may even affect their health. Over and above that, the corporations may also overprice products that they sell to the market to increase their profit margin. However, the principles of morality ensure that the corporations are responsible for the stakeholders by adopting corporate social responsibility and becoming corporate citizens. These organizations would engage in behaviors that are fair to other people as well.
Conclusion
In conclusion, morality in the society reinforces the society's tendency to engage in good behaviors that are acceptable in the society. This research proposal has identified how morality affects the society that we live in. It identifies the effects at a personal level (human values), at the community level (as regarding abortion and cloning) and the business level. Therefore, it identifies how the society has been made better with a universal definition of the right and wrong things.
