The media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram enable users to share immediate information and strengthen relationships. However, innovations are also accompanied by moral and ethical responsibility. Morality and ethics are paramount essential factors to consider when sharing chats and pictures in the social network. The book, Morality, Ethics, and Digital Life outlines the view of young people on morality, ethics and the use of technology platforms. In this paper, it is essential to summarize and the main points on morality ethics and digital life and make an analysis of the main subject of the book.

Summary of Morality, Ethics, and Digital Life

According to James (5) morality involves acting in an empathetic and fairly manner. Empathy is an essential moral concept that should guide the actions of people. Before taking any actions people should look beyond their personal interest, and in this case, they can practice morality. However, there is a difference between morality and ethics. The former involves acting empathetically while ethics is the effect of an action to other people(James 4).

While the digital devices have enhanced communication and strengthened the good relationship among people through the social media platforms (James 10), the young generation has developed different perceptions on the definition of the morality and ethics when they use the social networks. Most young people do not weigh the consequences of their actions when they are sharing information on media platforms. Moral thinking in online platform involves thinking of the possible reaction one would feel before posting. Additionally, showing respect to other social media users is can be another form of being moral on the internet (James 6).

The other hand ethical thinking involves evaluating the effects of the actions to other people. Ethical thinking on the internet my takes three different forms that include the responsiveness before taking any actions, making efforts in consideration of effects of taking a given action and showing concerns for the possible effects of the action to the community one ought to take before taking an action (James 7).

At times, the young generation may consider the moral and the ethics before taking an action but they may opt for self-focused decision (James 10). Assertively, the young people should consider three essential factors when before taking an action. They should make consequential, moral, and ethical considerations and as a result, they will be morally sensitive.

Reflection on Morality Ethics and Digital Life

The number of young people who are using social media platforms is high. The social networks have eased communication among people globally and as a result, people are able to maintain their relationship with those they are close to. The cases of misuse the networks are also rampant especially among the young generation. Ethics and morality are important considerations for responsible users. Often, the irresponsible users fail to take a keen interest in acting empathetically. Hardly do most people consider the consequences of their posts to others, and such people can be categorically lacking morals and ethics.

Self-focus has been the main cause of irresponsible use of social network. Sometimes, The young people do not put a thought on the reactions that others could make when they posting either words or pictures. Often, other people have negative reactions when their privacy has been infringed or they have been hurt by a particular message. Additionally, The immorality may extend the especially between anonymous people in the social networks.
