Question One: How Is God Represented In The Three Excerpts From The Bible?
From Genesis 1-4, God is seen as the giver of life (The Bible, Gen.1-4). He created heaven and earth and everything else in it. God made a beautiful world which was later filled with sins. However, he never gave up on humans. He was ready to forgive those who repented. Here, God is represented as merciful as he makes a covenant with Noah to save his people (The Bible, Gen. 6-9). He also cares for those who follow him. That is the reason he chose to save the people who obeyed him.
In Psalms, David praises the goodness of God. He talks of God as a provider and protector. He relates God to a shepherd who guides his flock (Christians) into safe havens (The Bible, Psalms 23). Therefore, the Christians who trust God will attain everlasting life. God is also portrayed as a savior (The Bible, Mt. 5-7). In the extract, Christians are guided on how they must live to attain salvation. Christians must follow Jesus teachings to get saved. Jesus talks with authority, that he is the way to eternal life. In the three extracts, God is represented as the giver of life, the provider of his people and the protector of the righteous. Therefore, Christians who believe in God will never lack and must not be afraid since he will always be there to watch over them.
Question Two: What Do You See As The Main Message About How To Live One's Life From The Sermon on the Mount?
The Sermon at Mt. Sinai is the longest in the Bible. In the teaching, Jesus spoke with authority on beatitudes, how to pray and the kingdom of God (The Bible, Mt. 5-7). On beatitudes, Jesus instructed on the rewards of being a Christian. He continues by telling his disciples what someones need to do to enter the kingdom of God. Furthermore, the cautioned Christianity against evils like murder, adoratory, oaths, divorce, and revenge. Jesus also instructed Christians on loving their enemies, praying and fasting, among others (The Bible, Mt. 5-7).
The doctrines of Jesus at Mt Sinai talks about how Christians should relate to one another. Jesus talked about love and service to humanity. Furthermore, Jesus gave Christians guidelines on how to solve the handle issues like divorce. He also taught how to pray and ask God for one's needs. He, however, cautioned on the false prophets and disciples who proclaim the gospel in pretense. According to Jesus, the teachings at Mt. Sinai were meant to be followed by Christians as a way to deliverance (The Bible, Mt. 5-7). Those that lived to these words of God would have eternal life.
Question Three: If These Texts Were Unfamiliar To You, What Was One Aspect That Stood Out Or That Was Interesting Or Surprising To You? If These Texts Were Familiar To You, What Is Something You Noticed When You Read Them Again?
The one theme that stood out was from Psalms reading (The Bible, Psalms 23). What was surprising was the change of heart of David. In most of David`s readings, he complained about God and about life. However, his change is most surprising in this text. He praises God for taking care of him. He proclaims Gods goodness and his trust in him. It is unlike David to write these words. This is what made the extract interesting. This text was unfamiliar to me and it has made me see another side of David, as a person who puts all the trust on God for all his needs.
