Introduction
The computer is a device which executes given instructions in a sequential manner using a set program. Since the time of computer innovation, many advancement modification and improvements have been done into the computer to enhance its performance. It is projected that with the current rate of improvements and innovations in the computer field, many people will lose jobs in future because the computer will be deployed to work in their places of work.
Artificial intelligence system is the development in the computer industry which is posing a great treat to employed people. This system has been modified such that it can think and execute actions like human beings (Lee, Choi, & Kwak, 2015). Artificial intelligence system is considered to be a disruptive technology; this is because once implemented, it will bring a lot of changes in the sector it has been employed. The following are the sectors where the computer is expected to dominate;
Bus drivers. Currently, in the transport system, there is ongoing research on how to effectively introduce vehicles which are computer driven. Tesla and Uber cars are currently carrying out a pilot program test to determine how capable computer-driven cars are. Adoption of this kind of vehicles will mean that people working as drivers will lose their jobs as a result of computer-driven cars.
Packing and moving of goods in the warehouse and stores. With the introduction of computer-guided robots in transporting and parking goods in stores, many people who could have done this manual work will lose their jobs. A perfect example of this is at Amazon; they have employed a parking robot in their warehouse. This means that people who once worked there lost their jobs hence hurting the employment of people.
Pilots. With the introduction of drones to conduct security surveillance, it has been proved that this system can effectively work hence there is a projection that with the continued use of drones, it will lead to advancement which will later be adopted by flight companies to replace pilots hence posing a threat to employment. Currently, numerous flight companies have considered replacing co-pilots with computer-assisted pilots which can be operated remotely; this will take over the jobs previously done by a human.
Doctors and surgeon robots. In the medical field, it is evident that robots are utilizing the Artificial intelligence System to perform minor surgeries with the absence of doctors, this means that doctors who could have done the operation will be replaced by the robot surgeon who is a product of computer knowledge.
Travel agents. With the adoption of computer use, it is expected that the travel agents will lose their job, this is because the work which was being done by agents will be done through a computer by the tourist. Through computer one will be able to get directions of where he or she intends to visit and will be able to book rooms to sleep using a computer.
As the computer poses a great treat to employment, it is worth to note that it has assisted industries in many ways to realize their development (Lee et al., 2015). Amazon is an example of a business which was started as a result of computer utilization thus in this case a computer created a job.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the adoption of the computer has had both positive and negative impact on the employment sector. It is therefore essential to note that if the computer is adopted with the care, it deserves it will have a positive impact in the society, this is because, with its utilization, new business opportunities will emanate thus creating employment opportunities.
