When the blood pressure rises to dangerous rates, it induces hypertension or excessive blood pressure. The calculation of blood pressure takes into consideration the fluid that flows into the blood vessels and the response of the heart to the air. Strength is increased by narrow arteries. The narrower your muscles, the stronger the blood pressure. Increased pressure, like cardiac disease, may lead to long-term health problems. It is quite normal for high blood pressure. Over several years, hypertension usually develops and normally, no signs are observed. (Holland, 2018).
Causes of hypertension
There are two types of hypertension each with different signs as explained below;
Primary hypertension- is often referred to as critical elevated blood pressure. Without an identifiable cause this type of high blood pressure develops over time. This form of elevated blood pressure is normal in most people. Causes can be;
Gene: Certain individuals are vulnerable to hypertension genetically. It may be attributed to gene defects or hereditary disorders that the parents inherit.
Physical change: One may begin to experience problems throughout your body if something in your body changes. Another such issue could be high blood pressure. For example, it's thought that changes in your kidney function due to aging may upset the body's natural balance of salts and fluid. This change may cause your body's blood pressure to increase.
Environment: Risky lifestyle choices such as a lack of physical activity and poor diet will affect your body over time. The choice of lifestyle may lead to problems with weight. Your risk of hypertension can increase by becoming overweight or obese.
Secondary hypertension- sometimes happens rapidly and may be worse than primary high blood pressure. Some conditions that can result to secondary hypertension include: obstructive kidney disease, congenital heart defects with thyroid drug use side effects, or the use of chronic surreal problems with endocrine tumors, and certain conditions may lead to secondary hypertension.
Diagnosis of High Blood Pressure
After just one study, hypertension diagnosis is seldom given. A persistent condition must be seen by the psychiatrist. That is how the behavior will contribute to elevated blood pressure, such as depression from being in the doctor's office. In fact, throughout the day, blood pressure varies. The doctor will probably conduct more tests to rule out the underlying conditions while the blood pressure remains high. These tests may include: an electrocardiogram, sometimes known as the ECG ultrasound on your heart or kidneys. These tests can help your doctor to imagine a cholesterol check and blood test (Holland, 2018).
Treatment options
According to Holland (2018), you need to pursue several drugs before you discover one of more drugs that function for you. Some of the medication suitable for treatment of hypertension includes;
Beta-blockers: Beta-blockers render the rhythm less sluggish and efficient and some of the drugs used to combat hypertension. This reduces the amount of blood pumped by your arteries, which reduces blood pressure with each beat. It also inhibits certain chemicals that can boost the blood pressure in your body.
Diuretics: High amount of sodium and extra fluid will raise blood pressure in your body. Enable the kids to eliminate extra salt from their bodies. Diuretics are often called water tablets. When the sodium leaves, extra fluid flows through the urine of the bloodstream.
Blockers of the calcium channel: These treatments block calcium from entering your heart's cardiac muscles. This leads to lower blood pressure and less forceful heartbeats. These medications also function in the blood arteries, allowing blood pressure to calm and decrease further.
Alpha-2 agonists: This type of drug changes the impulses of the nerves that tighten blood vessels. It tends to open the blood flow, raising blood pressure.
Home remedies for treatment of hypertension include;
Healthy eating- A cardiac balanced diet is necessary if high blood pressure is to be that. The management of hypertension, which is controlled and reduces the risk of complications, is also important. Such are cardiac failure, stroke and heart attack. Some of the friendly foods include; fruits, vegetables, lean meat and whole grains.
Physical activity- Include more physical activity to achieve healthy weight. In fact, exercise can help reduce stress, automatically reduce blood pressure and improve the cardiovascular system. Aim for moderate physical activity every week for 150 minutes. Five days a week, that's about 30 minutes.
Stress management- the major way to manage stress is through exercises and other means are; massage, meditation, yoga, and relaxing muscles.
Complications
According to Mayo clinic (2018), when not controlled, high blood pressure may lead to; stroke or heart attack, heart failure, metabolic syndrome, weakened and narrowed blood vessels in the kidneys, thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes, troubled memory or understanding, and dementia- a condition where arteries are narrowed or blocked.
Conclusion
The main risk of medical morbidity and death of elderly persons is hypertension. Increased chances of coronary failure and the decrease of blood pressure levels decreases the likelihood of cardiac and cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal system squeal in the elderly. The goal of antihypertensive therapy must therefore be to minimize cardiovascular complications in these patients and to maintain an acceptable quality of life and functionality.
