Introduction

Shooting guns, "It's rather fun, actually," is an article that was published in The Economist journal (King, 2015). The report heavily criticizes the people who advocate for banning and abolishment of the use of firearms. It is quite familiar to all Americans how guns have claimed a majority of lives either being murdered or committing suicide through the use of a firearm. However, some elites refute the argument that guns should be banned, which is the main focal point of discussion of the article under study. As a result, this paper aims at providing a rhetorical analysis of the article' shooting guns.'

The main goal of this article is gun control. However, the author seems to advocate for gun control in a slightly different perspective as the gun control champions who argue that guns need to be banned in the United States of America. Despite the high number of lives claimed by the use of guns through suicide behind closed doors or murdering of other people, the author believes that the deadly weapon can be used in the provision of a thrilling experience especially if someone is under massive depression or just looking out for a pleasant experience. The article discusses that research has found out that the number of deaths associated with guns is high on the poor parts of the country, the United States, as compared to the wealthy part of the States. Due to this, it's unfair to ban guns as there are people who are responsible and derive fun from the dreadful piece of machine.

The tool that the author uses in ensuring that the latter discussed point is comprehended is illiteracy. The author of 'shooting guns' proposes that illiteracy is a common factor that has made guns be used illegally and cause harm to a majority of people. However, if gun control advocate were given to a person who loves using guns for pleasant experiences, the whole concept of murdering oneself or others using guns would be massively changed. This is because the advocator could explain how guns could be used in other less harmful ways, which would reduce the number of deaths annually caused by firearms. Politicians are a tool that the author believes are used in ensuring that guns are banned. I the United States, communities believe that guns are a menace and therefore, politicians take advantage of this and promise to ban the usage of guns once they are elected. However, the politicians themselves are equipped with guns when going to shopping malls, picking up their children from school, among other activities. in the light of this, the author believes that people should be allowed to possess firearms the right way, and be taught on how to use them responsibly.

It has come to light that the author is not advocating o the principle of "free guns for all," but rather for those people who are responsible and have a sane mind. The author is keen on addressing that guns should not be possessed by people that are unsound as it may lead to a significant number of fatalities. In addition to this, children should only be given guns under strict supervision to prevent them from injuring themselves or others due to the lack of knowledge of how deadly the weapon can be to people. The author believes it's unfair to generally stereotype people in possession of guns to be criminals and murders. He suggests that some people are thrilled by the feeling they get by shooting a gun range until a round of bullets is exhausted.

The other tool that the author uses in justifying his arguments is the varied type of people he found at the shooting range in the suburbs of Maryland. Shooting ranges are usually stereotyped to white people, but in contrast to this belief, the author says that he did find a woman and child present at the shooting range to put into practice their hobby of shooting. Guns violence has been associated mostly with black Americans, which is unfair since a significant number of whites have also committed suicide using the deadly weapon. In surprise to the author, he did find the black woman and therefore, he suggests that the responsible using of guns is fun to people of varied backgrounds and races and hence, it should be respected that guns be used but in a responsible manner by people of all races, ages, and walks of life.

Conclusion

In light of the above discussion, it is evident that the author utilizes tools that bring out the information that he wanted to pass on the article. However, I tend to believe that his arguments are not that clear as the focus should be put on the number of lives that guns have claimed and they should be banned for harmonious living within communities. The ease of killing associated with arms is the critical factor that has made them deadly, and even sound people could turn murders at the snap of a finger. As a result, I actively champion for the banning of guns, especially if one is trying to look at the big picture.
