Introduction
Over the years, crime has often grown dramatically across America and the world as a whole. Family and domestic violence and crimes have increased in frequency in the last decade (Ireland, Smith, & Loveland, 2019). The militarization in America has done a little in the reduction of crime rates in America. This paper shall present a murder case of a seven-year-old girl as recorded in the CNN as well as the relevance of such evidence to the course materials on family crime and violence. It shall also present a well thought out argument on whether or not the subject of the article is a problem.
The Killing of 7-Year Old Girl in Mexico
The case presents a young girl named Fatima, a seven-year-old girl who was last seen being picked from school by a woman on February 11, 2020. It is reported that the girl was announced missing but was later found dead inside a plastic bag at Tlahuac municipality within South Mexico City. The news sparked a lot of furies as well as political finger-pointing in Mexico. The little girl had been beaten and sexually abused before her death (Gallon, 2020). This news came just a few days following another brutal killing of a 25-year old girl who had been mutilated and skinned by her partner following an argument (Gallon, 2020).
The case of the brutal killing of the 25-year old girl in New Mexico is immensely relevant to the course materials (Gallon, 2020). For instance, the problem of domestic violence and child maltreatment have become increasing concerns both in the United States but also across the world (Gallon, 2020). As such, there is a growing need to respond to the challenges of family violence through the adoption of interventions and insights that are geared towards the formulation of policies and regulations to curb family crime and violence (Fondevila & Meneses-Reyes, 2019).
The legal code of Mexico City defines family crime and abuse as any act that involves force, violence o threats that may cause bodily injuries while placing a person in a reasonable apprehension sexual assault, physical harm and death often committed by a household member or a person within the family (Ireland, Smith, & Loveland, 2019). As such, the family member here may also include former and current spouses regardless of whether they reside in the same house with the victim (Gallon, 2020). Again according to both the case study and the course materials, family crimes such as dating assaults, family violence, and sex crimes significantly influence the lives of the citizens within America (Fondevila & Meneses-Reyes, 2019).
The subject in the case above is indeed a significant problem within Mexico and beyond. This is because the killing of women within the United States, particularly Mexico City, has increased 137% within the last five years (Gallon, 2020). For instance, according to Mexico Attorney General, a total of 1006 cases of killing of women had been recorded in 2019 compared to only 912 in the preceding year. Sources indicate that ten women are killed within Mexico each day (Fondevila & Meneses-Reyes, 2019). Many activists and authorities have classified such killings as social ills that must be condemned across the world. The femicide cases within the United States have been blamed on the progressive degradation of social values caused by family and social problems.
Conclusion
In conclusion, family and domestic violence and crimes have grown in frequency in the last decade within America and beyond. The murder case of the seven-year-old and 25-year-old girls in Mexico City clearly shows incidents of family violence and crimes in the society. The examples are indeed relevant to the course materials on family violence and crime.
