It is estimated by the year 2100; the global temperature would have increased by at least three degrees Celsius. Scientists predict that this rise of global temperatures would create massive calamities in human civilization. For instance, due to the melting of the polar ice because of warm temperatures, it will mean that the seas will rise and create floods.
The phenomenon that is responsible for all of these negative things is global warming or climate change. Scientists have defined this as the gradual rise of temperature in the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming has necessitated many reactions from different facets of society. As a result, divergent views have arisen out of the situation (Arnold).
The first view is that global warming is a real thing. People of this also hold the notion that human beings are the cause of it all. Besides, they also advocate for more resources to be invested in tackling .global warming. The other view is that global warming is a hoax created by some influential individuals to enrich themselves.
Most persons who hold this view are often conservatives. Lastly, the third view is that global warming is real, but nothing human beings do will save the situation. Most people who hold this view believe that resources should not be wasted in saving a hopeless case. In that light, in order for the world to be better, this paper seeks to address the importance of devoting resources to battling climate change.
The first significance is that it will reduce the monies spent in mitigating the effects of global warming (Forum). Most nations of the world are increasingly spending more on disasters caused by global warming. Some of these disasters include floods, landslides, and hurricanes. For instance, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimate that unites states of America spends nearly 91 billion dollars in natural disasters alone.
This amount can be significantly reduced if there are measures put in place to reverse climate change. Moreover, this can only be achieved by investing most of the resources in tackling global warming. The other significance is that it will help save the number of monies used by businesses and households.
It is estimated that households will be saving a total of nine hundred dollars annually, and businesses will save a total of one hundred and twenty-six billion dollars ("Growing Green: The Economic Benefits Of Climate Action"). All these will be possible if the government invests more in the green energy economy. For instance, if there were more power savings technologies, households, businesses will reduce the amount of money they spend on their electricity bills.
The third sign is that it will guarantee global security. It should be noted that extreme weather, which is experienced as a result of global warming, is likely to cause limited resources in the world. When this happens, nations of the world will fight in order to get access to those resources.
Conclusion
In conclusion, more investments must be pumped into global warming. It is because it reduces the cost of mitigating the effects of global warming. It also helps save money and enhances global security.
