Introduction
Generational experiences form the most significant histories that determine the success or the failure of one's family. The historical phases of the families are responsible for shaping the outlook of the present generation in all aspects of the economy, education, and politics. However, each generation has its unique challenges and struggles which often underplay their performance and success. It can also be noted that the present generations have fewer difficulties due to the advanced technology although it is controversial that that similar challenges are evident and made intensely. This essay provides my families' educational experiences through three generations' memories.
How I Conducted the Interview
I am lucky to have parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents who are still alive. Through the yearly meeting of the family get-together, I requested meeting them in person to interview them on their experiences in education. Both representatives of the family generation agreed to make up for the interview. After the last December family get-together, I managed to secure one of the meeting rooms at my great-grandparents. I booked two to three hours of the interview in the evening after dinner. This time was appropriate because the representatives of the generations were relaxed and free. It was a time when they were happy and willing to make stories with us. I interviewed one per day to ease the workload to give them time to prepare for the interviews. I requested them to assemble the portfolios of their educational experiences. I also asked them to come with their journals to indicate their expectations, outcomes, the best and worst experiences, and accomplishments in education. I recorded all they said using m recording devices to avoid the boredom of requiring them to repeat what they had stated before. It made out conversations smooth without any interruptions. All the interviewers were all willing to give their experiences.
Who the Interviewees Were
I interviewed my great-grandfather who is now 97 years, a retired government employee who worked a school head in the later years of his profession. I chose him as a representative of his generation because I believe he is the driving force to the entire family from his advice and discipline. He was the only government employee in his family in his generation, and this was the best. The second was the grandfather, a retired health practitioner who worked in the nearby medical center. He achieved to buy several estates and made investments by setting up small enterprises which are now large-scale business operating in many countries. The company is now family property. I chose him as the representative of the generation for his struggles to uplift the education status of the family. He was the best in the academic qualification of his age. The third interviewee was my dad, a government employee working in marine intelligence and has educated the whole family in the best schools. His views on education have been instrumental in propelling us. He was the right person to interview at the level of our generation.
What I Heard From The Interviewees and My Experiences
Great grandfather "Antony."
Me: let's go straight to your educational experiences, where my interests are. Which educational expectations did you have? Who did you expect to be?
Antony: (smiling) you remind me of my childhood times when I was in my lower classes. I expected to be a professor, pilot or engineer. Unfortunately, I managed to be a high school head teacher, who enjoyed his job (laughing)
Me: thank you so much. What happened? You did not manage to get all you wanted
Antony: (looks bored) my family did not have the funds to enable me to go to college to study the career I wanted. I was forced to attend the teaching profession to give each sibling a chance to explore.
Me: what have been the outcomes of your education?
Antony: (confused) I have enjoyed my career, I was able to secure government which educated my children; I have traveled around the country and enjoyed what I could. Am satisfied I did my best.
Me: what have been the best and worst moments in your education? What is your greatest achievement?
Antony: my worst moment was the denial by my parents to join the career I wished, seeing my friends join campus was saddening. My best moment was when I secured my job of being a government employee; I was sure of cash. My most significant achievement was providing education to my children.
Grandfather "Peter"
Me: what educational expectations have you had and what was the outcomes?
Peter: I expected to be a neurosurgeon, but I managed to be a pharmacist working under the government.
Me: what are your worst and best moments in your career?
Peter: the worst experience was the failure to join the neurosurgeon course due to my qualifications. My best moment was my ability to find fulfillment by educating my family and making investments for them.
Father "Johnston"
Me: what educational expectations have you had and what was the outcomes?
Johnston: my worst moment was my the inability to be the best in my class because I lacked the best advice to be keen. The best moment is when I found the job and have since been able to find fulfillment.
Me: what has been your accomplishment?
Johnston: I have been able to support my family in education; I reached the top of my knowledge with the best qualification
My Experiences
I have attended the best schools in my education life. I have expected to pursue a career in computer science. I have had all the support from my parents, but they stress on finding a career that shall secure me a job in the government. My worst moment was to follow my football talent which dad says it would not benefit me that much. My best moment in life was joining the best high school of my dream and believe will shape my career.
Similarities and Differences Among the People I Interviewed
From both interviews and my experiences, educational expectations were evident with both having the best careers to be their dreams. Everyone desires the best by wanting the best in the profession. Again most expect a job that has never been pursued by a family member. It is evident from the outcomes of the careers that non realized the expectations on the stands of the economic status of the family. The expectations were based on the financial situations of the country, where people expected to find careers with the highest pays. The best moments were met after the parties realized the value of their careers and fulfillment. Most cited the entrance to the government jobs which helped them to achieve their economic needs. The difference in their expectations was based on the economic situations of the family. Many desired career was the best based on the salaries. The family situation promoted the outcomes of the occupations. They found the jobs that helped them meet their economic needs. The accomplishments made in all the generation were based on the previous generation's success.
Summary of The Opportunities Achieved and Those Missed
I observed that both generations had expectations to advance in the careers or acquire the best profession. The ages had the job opportunities and careers which enables the period to get the government opportunities. The generation had the chance to purchase the education which based on the available educational opportunities proved the best. From the great-grandparents, education has been the best opportunity that propelled through until the present generation. These generations missed the chances of encouraging talent realization which would have promoted them to the greatest fulfillment in the age.
