Introduction
"The choice of what to do when we are free is numerous in recent times. Since things have been going faster, researchers are trying to separate them, but they transform into different ones. Free time has been continuously moving into our environment. Researchers have been offered skills that position them uniquely on how to gather stable information. Both physical and financial human development does not change. Emotions do not change; they will cry when sad and laugh when happy. They are social orientation beings and will never stay in captivity, but instead, it is the core truth of Americans sport" (Belson, 2019).
Summary of the Article
Doctor Rich Luker, who studied communication and psychology from the University of Michigan, was concerned with the influence of the media on child development. This led him to questions on why and how adults spent their free time. He learned that adults spent most of their time on sports. He also discovered that the internet on smartphones had given consumers more choices and distractions (Belson, 2019). The changing behavior of human beings is due to the internet, where people have infinite options on what to do with their free time.
He was also concerned to understand why sports fans are so passionate about getting a tattoo of their favorite teams' logo to show that it is their core identity. The sports fans are also passionate about selling tickets, advertisements, sponsorship, and luxury boxes for their favorite teams. Researchers have relied on online surveys and digital tools to track the behavior of the fans. Luker was concerned about the stories that fans tell about why they follow a team.
Options on what to do with our free time have become infinite in recent times. Things are moving quickly, and researchers are trying to separate things, but they transform into something else. The environment that we live in is always in motion (Belson, 2019). Researchers have been given the training to be in a position of collecting stable information. Human physical and financial development does not change, as they will cry when sad and laugh when happy.
Even though most adults are more into sports, the internet has changed everything, and instead, the sports industry is now the media industry. Sports are run by business people who love sports, but they are worried about what is going on (Belson, 2019). People are busy developing new technologies that surpass things in sports. Instead of the sports industry trying to beat them, they are joining them. It could be better if they spared little time, energy, and effort towards their games, even if they are using technology. The sports industries have now focused more on technology and media than itself.
Sports should maintain their local flavor without being interfered with the internet. If it becomes classic sports, then it should provide the social context that is being lost on the internet. People are in a position of having a million options about what to do with their free time apart from being on the internet. Sports and another form of leisure will have its relevance. Researchers have found it hard for them to do sports research as they are using machines (Belson, 2019). They have no human interaction; they only collect the outcomes without understanding or knowing why.
