Introduction
The author argues that the Aesthetic, environmental conditions of Mars make it to be terraformed. This means that the beautiful appearance of Mars as a planet qualifies it to have similar features like Earth hence can support human life. Arguably, the author answers several questions to establish his argument. He determines whether Mars is beautiful, whether it supports human life, making it to be likened to Earth. The author argues that Mars can be explored, exploited, and even colonized in ways that control and minimize aesthetic damage. He says that Mars has natural beauty comprising of is wilderness and aesthetic values. However, he says that the intensification of water cycles that cause soil erosion in highlands and landscapes can be radically transformed by terraforming Mars through making irreversible changes in its aesthetic qualities.
Survival of the Human Race
Mars can hold an indigenous biosphere that is suitable for the survival of the human race. On this basis, we can conclude that the author has a stand that human life can be supported on Mars. He also uses photos to say that Mars is beautiful, just like Earth, when he tries to search for the beauty of mars. He says that Mars has always been a dream of human beings' fantasies as it is a home of technological advancement ad aligned civilization. Unlike Earth, Mars is stark and simple (McMahon, Sean 209-218).
However, in my view, I can't entirely agree with the author. I'm afraid I have to disagree that Mars cannot be compared with Earth in any way or the other. Although the author have strong points and evidence that Mars can support human life, that does not qualify it in any way to support life like Earth. Although I may agree with you that Mars is oxygenated hence suitable for supporting human life, the environment there is not ethically environmental conducive for human beings and their culture. Human life is also accompanied by other factors like the seasons that occur on the planet. In answering the question of whether Mars is beautiful like Earth, I also can't entirely agree with you basing my knowledge on the photos captured by NASA. In general, according to the NASA report done in 1976, Mars in an uncomfortable place for the survival of human beings.
The kind of terraforming defense is probably misguided. The perception that Mars can support human life is wrong because human habitation cannot be accommodated on Mars without terraforming it. Survival and health of human beings have to be taken into account before having a decision that human life can be accommodated in mars. The expectations of human beings surviving on Mars were cut short and frustrated in 1964 when four people traveled to Mars (in NASA report) and found that it was imaged barren and had a cratered surface simple (McMahon, Sean 209-218).
Conclusion
The most disappointments were when NASA captured colored photographs from the surface of Mars. The red sky of Mars gave them a shock, and this could not even make it to look beautiful anymore. The report was blackmailed to the public by turning it into a bluish color before releasing it to the public. This clearly shows that Mars is not an attractive planet, as the author puts it. Rationally, I don't believe life can be supported on a planet that has a red sky.
