Introduction

It is quite impossible to talk about the National Football League without mentioning Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. Born in 1967, Sanders has proved to be one of the most incredible times in the NFL. The reputation of Sanders precedes him and even earned him the nickname Prime Time. Sanders's clubs for in his heydays include San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskin, Baltimore Ravens, and Atlanta Falcons. Sanders put up an exceptional performance in all these clubs, making him the Most Valuable Player in most matches. Surprisingly, Sander's talents were not only limited to the NFL; he played baseball and participated in track athletics. In his career, he is the only player to participate in both the World Series and Superbowl. It is with no doubt that any team was the winning team provided they had Sanders.

Head Coach

Having Sanders as the head coach at Jackson State University is such an underrated blessing. The skillset and experience possessed by Sanders are enough to lead any team to the championship. First, Sanders has a passion for athletics and American Football, to be precise. Therefore, having him coach students is not only a job to him but also a calling.

In the contemporary world, it is rare to find someone doing something they love as a career. Most people are coerced into fields that they do not like so that they can fend for themselves. Likewise, some fail to achieve their primary goal and end up settling for a fallback plan. To most people, a career is just a day job that puts food on the table, explaining why Mondays are such a turn off to them. Nonetheless, the same cannot be said about Sanders. As a professional and star athlete/American Football player, Sanders would make an excellent coach.

Sanders owned his profession and went to extreme lengths to achieve the same. In the fourteen seasons that he has played in the NFL, Sanders has mastered the game and can efficiently impart it to students. The students at Jackson State University will also be motivated to perform. With Sanders as the head coach, there will be two performance pressures; intrinsic and extrinsic pressure. The inherent tension will come from student players. They will want to prove to the world that they are not the problem with the best coach. Some of the highly motivated players will even go ahead and try to outdo their coach. The extrinsic pressure will emanate from other student players, parents, teachers, fans, and even the coach himself. The external pressure may either make or break the team. A lot of patience, understanding, and perseverance will be needed.

High Profile Coach

Having hired a very high-profile coach, the school expects results. The expectations will be raised significantly. Therefore, a probability that wins will not be much celebrated, and failures will be vehemently condemned. The above can either be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on each player's perception. Some student players will take this pressure positively and up their game to meet the expected standards.

Failures will be treated as challenges to improve, which will improve the team's overall performance. Such students will train a little harder, focus more, and learn everything they can from the best. Unfortunately, the pressure might be too much for some student players. They will perceive themselves as not good enough, and this will further deteriorate their performance. The pressure to perform on the field might make them neglect their studies and other essential roles.

Conclusion

Whereas everyone is celebrating Sanders' appointment as head coach at Jackson State University, they ought to look at both sides. Needful support and motivation will be required from both the stakeholders and shareholders. To avoid issues about performance anxiety, the coach needs to be given ample time to understand and bond with the student players. It is only through understanding them that the coach will know the method and approach to use.
