Introduction

The Pianist film is just a life history of a man by the name dyslaw Szpilman. This man when the first German bombs fell, he was playing Chopin on a Warsaw radio station (Garbowski and Christopher, 13). His family was successful and very secure, to an extent that he decided in his mind that he was not going anywhere. In the film, we can see as the noose of the Nazi tightens. The family tried to bare the painful reports that were given out that war had been declared by England and France. The reports were a clear indication that the Nazis were soon going to be defeated and their life was to go back to square one. However, this did not happen. The Pianist film has its Merits and Weaknesses. The first strength of the movie is clearly seen, in the scene that looks to be so heartbreaking and that depicts graphic violence. But what is more encouraging and amusing is the way the director of the film delivers the message to the viewers in a very nice way. The director waits until that point when the audience is almost getting numbed by the devastating life that is in the ghetto, then he makes sure that the pianist has escaped for almost a day, went and walked through some flower stalls and went to some market that was outside the ghetto. This actually shows the audience how the pianist his no longer leading his normal life. However, the audience is also encouraged in the same way that the pianist is also encouraged and just when the brutality from the Nazi becomes unbearable, there is a German soldier who loves music who comes in and treats the pianist so kindly.

The weaknesses of the Pianist film are not much however, it is very crucial to point out that, the title of the film is an understatement and it is a weakness in its own and since the title is an understatement it also translates to the entire film (Howard and Wilfred, 34) This is because in this film a story that is told is a true story of a Polish Jew who was an expert in music and who happened to survive the Holocaust through what many terms as stoicism and some say it is good luck. The fact is that the way, he escaped the terror is not understood. The film is not a thriller and therefore it should not avoid any attempt to bring suspense. This is because this is the pianist true story of what he went through and what he witnessed. It should also be clear to the viewers that the fact that the pianist survived was not a victory, and this is because all his family members and friends that he loved so much died. When Polanski is narrating the story of how his mother died in the gas chambers he says that nothing will take the experience from his mind until he dies. Therefore, in as much as the film is one of the best movies that is actually very emotional and captivating, to an extent that when one begins to watch he or she cannot leave the seat until the movie is over. It also important to realize that in as much as it has a lot of strong parts and scenes it also important to take note that it also has some weaknesses, which if they can be rectified The Pianist Film can be better than it is now.
