A sport is a kind of play which is governed by a given set of rules. In my culture, the sport is regarded as being physically competitive and exertive. In the different forms of sports carried out in my culture, competition is the one that determines the loser and the winner. Many people in society believe that they are familiar with sports that take place in the community. However, several aspects of sports make it strange to many who believe they are much familiar with the sports practices. In the society, children and adults train their brains and bodies for facing real-life situations through the art of sports. Through the act o sports, children can learn and acquire several new skills that contribute to their development and growth such as decision-making, cooperation and enhanced the ability to both acts and think more creatively. However, the sports activities in my community are in many times taken for granted although they play a significant role in the development of the healthy brain. One of the facts about sports activities that most people are unfamiliar with is the fact that the connections and patterns that are made between the neurons and nerve cells in the brain are typically influenced and stimulated by the sports activities that people in the society engage in like football. The children in the community require being encouraged to participate in play since it may be extremely constructive to the overall development of the brain and the effectiveness in the formation of the new connections made in the brains.

It is strange that people in the society do not know that the sports activities carried out have significant development influences on the gross and fine motor skills, socialization, language, emotional well-being, personal awareness, learning ability, problem-solving skills, and creativity. People in my community should view the sports activities as being a practice which is significant to contribute to the understanding of one's culture.

An outsider may view sports practices in my culture as comprising of work, play, and leisure. Outsiders may have the belief that the exertive forms that are less physical regarding sports are the one that constitutes play while more athletically and exertive demanding sports frequently serve as the work for the people involved in the play and the entire team. Outsiders view different teams included in the society's sports as being formed to represent various culture groups such as various economic levels. As a result, this develops allegiances at the domestic level although the teams established in the society may serve the entire community at the national level.

The strange thing about sports in my culture is that all types of sports practices usually are defined by a conflict whereby the goal remains as the target for e8ther the team or opponent to win. Therefore, the sport is strange in my culture as conflict-resolution is usually the goal. This kind of play, since a given set of rules defines it, it establishes a virtual world whereby the individuals participating may develop heroes, enemies and celebrate, all with no any real-world implication. In my culture, teams usually exist with the aim of opposing each other and representing themselves as being the players and their team. In my culture, the aspects of participating in sports such as soccer include physical strength, teamwork, coordination, aggressiveness, speed, and discipline. These aspects are all the qualities that are attributed to the people in the society. Engaging in the observation regarding sport in my culture makes the familiar strange as it brings the understanding that sport is related to healthy living. In many societies, there has been an increase in the epidemic concerning unhealthy and overeating lifestyles.

Sports usually improve physical fitness which is an essential aspect of healthy living which is significant in people's daily lives. Sports help in allowing individuals to become physically fit which does not only assist individuals in living healthy lives but also help people to live longer. Sports in my culture contribute in enabling people to maintain an active lifestyle throughout their lives which makes them stay away from the risk of becoming affected by diseases such as chronic illness.

Sports should be viewed as a subset of the physical activities although it is an activity which is well planned and structured. Another aspect in the observation of the sports activity in my culture that makes familiar strange is that it helps people in ingraining several disciplines and values that are critical in one's life. Playing that is involved in sports assist people I developing teamwork with their teammates. Given that every team in the play is determined to attain a common goal of winning, it usually takes a team that is unselfish to achieving success in the sports. Therefore, the sports teaches people in the society that success does not always come easy and for people to succeed in life and sports, they require working hardest to accomplish their goal.

The book Standing in the Need by Katherine Browne challenges me to reconsider what is familiar in the society. In the book, Katherine Browne uses a rhizome metaphor. A rhizome is a plant stem which sends out shoots and rooted from different nodes. Browne uses the rhizome metaphor in an attempt to describe the interconnectedness that exists between the members of a given family in the society. This challenges my perception of the people belonging to a particular family as I never realized that individuals of a family usually form a tangle of the interdependent and nonhierarchical relations which feed off the shared life sources. The life sources, in this case, are represented by the rootstock that has been planted firmly n the soil.

Conclusion

According to the study conducted by Browne, (2015), the rhizome's family nature is the most common in the societies today and it is essential in that it assists in the keeping of families together for several generations. The families in the community have established their distinct ecosystem which enables the members to stay together in various activities and practices such as sport. The family practices are the ones that reinforce the connection that individuals have towards each other. Before reading the book, I believed that food and emotion were unhealthy. However, Browne challenges this perspective by proving in the book that the relationship that exists between emotion and food is not unhealthy. The comfort family foods were mostly healthy and whole. After a family evacuated, it was plucked from the daily cultural practices like sports, and as a result, it did not only lost the cultural traditions but also it lost the ties that it had created with other families in the society.
