Introduction

As instructed for my next assignment, I am to assess the substantial impact of intellectual property threat by an insider to the Corporate Security Services Office and in this I will be working with the office of Property Holdings and Development (Ph.D.) since its head had become suspicious when a member of the plans team joined a competitor in the RV Parks and Resorts business area.

In the RV Parks and Resorts business area, Padgett-Baele Inc has become a significant competitor. PBI can support various company operations aspect with the implementation of an integrated customs management software and technologies. In utilizing this, PBI began to give management services to hoteliers and property owners. It was also responsible for using other technologies such as the internet and websites in the creation of a resort affiliates program.PBI would lose a critical competitive stepping stone over its competitors if it incurred theft of its sale systems' computer-based point. PBI is allowed to process debit cards by intellectual property. Stealing an idea, software, or processes such as this is easier and even cheaper than choosing to undergo implementation from the start (Gelinne, Fancher & Mossburg, 2016). As a result of many park managers utilizing the reservation systems of the third party, PBI had a customized website for each park and accessed online reservation systems, convenient to guests while still carrying out advertisements. Decrease of sales can occur due to loss of intellectual property information on the products, functions, and processes to a competitor (Collins, Spooner, Cappell, Moore & Trzeciak, 2013).

PBI should be aware of the ways in which intellectual property may get compromised. Stealing of intellectual property information can also lead to exposure of corporate structure and any strategic plan in an organization. This property planned to expand condominiums, vacation, and life-shares property. Competitors could be advantaged in this in case they have finances to support it. In stealing the intellectual property of an organization, employees may gain entitlement, revenge, and even financial gain (Loehrke, 2018). An employee may gain financially in stealing intellectual property by selling the information or helping with the upcoming employment. Also, an employee may decide to get revenge when mistreated by their employers. They may also feel that they own the information as they were involved in creating it. For organizations to protect themselves from these problems, they have developed ways to do this. On intellectual property theft, PBI carries out efficient hiring processes and does background checks for its potential employees. A non-disclosure agreement should be present to make employees legally responsible in case of intellectual property theft (Halbert, 2016). Training is also necessary and should regular and clear.PBI necessarily should also restrict personal devices and how the company's information is stored in those devices (Burtt & Closser, 2013). Implementation of strong passwords should be done for all employees. Only necessary information should be accessible by the employees. Use of data loss prevention (DLP) should be in the recommendation, and there should be identified that all existing information is relevant. DLP will be able to detect any unusual activities like coping with large amounts of data (Burrt & Closser, 2013).

Padgett-Baele Inc should implement the recommendations to protect its intellectual property since its stealing can have adverse effects on an organization, moving it out of business (Collins, Spooner, Cappell, Moore, & Treciak, 2013). Though it is not possible to prevent intellectual property theft, it is possible to lessen the effects on the organization; training, implementing technologies, robust hiring processes are some of the ways to keep this information safe and secure.
