Brooklyn is a borough in New York City that has five. Its neighbors are Manhattan with the East River separating them and Upper and Lower New York bays, Borough of Queens, and the Atlantic Ocean to the South. Brooklyn Bridge connects Brooklyn to Manhattan together with a rapid transit tube and a vehicle tunnel. The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connects Brooklyn to Staten Island while parkways connect it to Queens and Long Island.

Dutch first settled in Brooklyn in 1626 with consequent settlements around Gravesend, the Ferry, Wallabout, and Flatlands. It was first named Breuckelen in 1645, but changes to Brooklyn as the 18th century came to a close. Settlements around Brooklyn also crop up later, including Williamsburg, Bushwick, Flatbush, and New Utrecht. Brooklyn remains the warzone in 1776 during the Battle of Long Island as part of the American Revolution as Brooklyn heights became the retreating area near the East River. Brooklyn first became a city in 1834 as it was a village since 1816 due to its high population (Gould & Lewis, 2018). Brooklyn then first became neighbors with Bushwick and Williamsburg in 1855 and later with Kings County as the city grew with more communities cropping up. New York City commissioned Brooklyn as a borough on 1st January 1898.

Brooklyn has significant traffic on the ocean as it is an industrial and residential city. The long Island Rail Road has a terminus in the city. Brooklyn has educational centers that have been long-standing like the Long Island University, the State University of New York, Polytechnic University, and Pratt Institute that was established in 1887. Brooklyn also has sites of attraction since colonial times like the Brooklyn's Children's Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Arboretum, Coney Island, and Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, which is a colonial church. Brooklyn has famous natives, including Norman Mailer and Arthur Miller, who are writers. Woody Allen, who is a filmmaker, and George Gershwin, who is a composer (Mendes et al., 2017). Brooklyn is a hundred and eighty-four square kilometers in area.

Brooklyn has a total population of 2,600,747 as per the last census and is the most populous of boroughs in New York City. Brooklyn stands out as a top residential area in Kings County and New York City. It is a highly urban city, and it a prime residential locality for residents who rent their homes. Brooklyn has many parks, shops, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. Brooklyn is an example of a city with liberal residents (Gould & Lewis, 2018). It is one of the most suitable places to stay as a family and ranks at number three thousand two-hundred and four in the United States. The best neighborhoods include Downtown Brooklyn, Carrol Gardens, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, and Prospect Heights.
