Leadership is an important function in every organization since it guides while people re carrying out various functions. Also, it provides an organization with a platform to oversight and evaluates how various components are performing. Providing a responsible leadership means that an individual has the capability of making ethical decisions and judgments on existing rules and norms. As a responsible citizen in a leadership position, it is essential to always operate within legal guidance (Veldsman & Johnson, 2016). Besides, they have a mandate to critically analyze all operations and norms within an organization to ensure that they abide by the standards and regulations set by the country. Responsible citizens in leadership positions ensure that their organizations participate in corporate social responsibility (Pearce et al., 2014). Overall, responsible leaders operate their daily operations in an organization while still addressing the specific demands, challenges, and requirements of the country.

Followership is a term that refers to the ability to take directions effectively or to operate according to programs given. Responsible followership, therefore, can be used to refer to work as required by an organization (Hurwitz, 2015). A responsible follower performs the expected duties effectively and also operates in harmony with others while doing teamwork. Every citizen must show responsibly while performing duties for the success of an organization. Followers with responsible citizenship maintain work ethics, loyalty, honesty, and competency to the requirements of an organization and the nation. For instance, responsible followership should never evade taxes as required by the government.

Responsible citizenship can assist followers while they are doing their duties. First, it is essential in the decision-making process since they have to obey the underlying rules and laws within an organization and the nation. Also, responsible citizenship allows followers to maintain work ethics that permit quality while at the workplace (Yen, 2019). Moreover, followers maintain honesty while performing tasks assigned to them. On the other hand, responsible citizenship allows leaders to maintain morals and ethics while disseminating their mandates. They provide leadership without harassment to the employees. Also, responsible citizenship instils honesty, therefore controlling corruption. It also plays a role in the success or failure of an organization.
