Introduction
The possible new home where humans can inhabit is the Mars. In the creation of the outpost, the design together with the components will be based on an original lunar test bed outpost. This project would have to undergo several stages before it becomes completed. The stages are four in number and they take two years in total. This means that each and every stage will take two years to complete. The stages will include an emplacement stage and the consolidation stage. After the two stages are completed, it will start being used immediately because all the tests and experiments would have been done to ascertain whether it can support human life.
The simulation tests of Mars such as the Biosphere that was done in the year 1990 examined the concept of colonizing the space on large scales. However, it encountered considerable challenges such as the loss of oxygen in large numbers. Greenhouse habitats that are specialized may be in a position of supporting bioregenerative systems of life support to operate on the smaller scales. The idea behind the concept of bioregenerative life support is intended at gathering the breath of the human crew who would be living there, their solid and liquid waste and then use plants together with some other forms of life to reprocess them into fresh products such as air, water and food. As a result, this would essentially decrease the need for having to resupply and assist in ensuring that the human beings living there survive longer. Moreover, the colony would be made more sustainable, autonomous and affordable.
The features of the base would comprise of a habitat module, an equipment lock, a sixteen meter built habitat and airlocks. The sixteen meter habitat would be made perfectly so that it can be used effectively. In addition, some other technology that would be used for the construction of the base will comprise of a meteorological balloon, an area of storage and work, unpressurized rover, an area that would be used for things such as geophysical testing as well as an area for the antenna. This outpost is to be designed in a manner such that it should be able to hold a significant number of individuals. But first, the initial inhabitants would be a few number of astronauts who will have a task of conducting studies on the aspects such as mining, life sciences, the exploration of the solar system and technology. All these are necessary for the purposes of establishing its suitability to host human beings in their large numbers (Rabkin, 2005).
For instance, the Office of Space Exploration, between the years of 1988 and 1989 conducted studies which encompassed the establishment of the possibility of human beings living on another planet apart from the Earth (Carr, 2006). The major objective of this study was to establish where there was a way of taking people to live in other planets had they found that human beings actually lived in some other planets.
This proposal is a very fundamental proof that the construction of an outpost is very possible. It is a concept that should be given much priority and that people should start thinking in that direction. It is an actual objective that people should aspire and to start civilization on Mars because studies have severally confirmed that it is the second most habitable planet after the Earth because it has some features that are close to those of the Earth though not so close. The pressures on the planet Earth in terms of population growth is also another important factor that should inspire people to consider this option.
