Introduction
Volunteering is described as the process whereby or the time when college students are sent to various schools to provide teaching services before they complete the teaching programs that they undertake at school. They are assigned to the different schools to practice without any stipend attached to the service they offer to the learners. It has been a trend in some colleges, but it is not adding much value to the students. Most of the students who went through it in the past before getting to the teaching profession found it very difficult, hence making them strain too much in their college school life. Some of the students also did not go for the volunteering programs but still are doing very well in the field. I feel that it is not for the college students to go for volunteering activities in schools to practice before going to their occupations. The paper provides a detailed description of why the students should not go for volunteer program before they transfer college from English program.
I don't agree with the volunteer program before transferring from the English program because students do not have private time to do personal activities. Private time is necessary for everyone including the college students; this is the time that they can find to do other things that may improve their future livelihood. The students can use the private time to interact freely and share ideas that might improve their lives. As they share the students achieve a wealth of knowledge, thus diversity of information to solve social and economic challenges. This is also the time that the college students relieve stress, pressure, and monotony of class work. They can use this time to release stress through cracking jokes, playing and other things that make their mind to be relaxed and fresh. Therefore, the students get very limited time for their private life hence should not participate in the volunteer program.
The second reason why I dispute the volunteer program is that college students also have family responsibilities. Due to the tight schedule in school, the students do not find enough time for their families. If volunteer activities are added to the tight schedule, then they might not have enough time to attend to their families. There are some who have children, husbands and aging parents that they need to take care of. Therefore, they should be given time to be with their families. Nowadays people do not have time for their families due to the 24 working hour economy. Therefore, students should be given time. When they are with the family, they share a lot of family issues that are necessary for every family and society. Children in this century do not get time for conversing and getting the parental teachings. Therefore, students should be granted more time and not participate in the volunteer program.
Finally, I don't agree with the volunteer program because the students do not find enough time for personal study. College students are always engaged in class work for the better part of the day. It is during the daytime that lecturers try to cover their English lessons as they try to meet the terms coverage target. Almost all the teachers attend their daily lessons 100 percent. Therefore, the time set for the volunteering program is the time that the students should go through the content they have been taught in class for the whole day. If the students are subjected to volunteer activities, then it means most of the class work will be piled to volumes that might be hectic to master given the short time of the term. Students can also use this time for group studies or consultations to what they didn't understand fully in class. As students do not have much time to study or consult nowadays. The students might also give a raw deal to the learners during the volunteer programs as they are not given enough time to prepare in mastering the content to deliver. For that reason, the students should be given enough time for personal studies and thus need not to participate in volunteer activities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I don't support and therefore disagree with the volunteer program before students transfer college from English program. This is because college students do not have enough time for their private life that is necessary for every human being to relieve stress and share freely. The students use this time for personal studies, discussions, and consultations. The time used for volunteer program can also be used by the students to attend to their families. Therefore, I submit in this paper that volunteer programs before transfer in English program should be scrapped.
