These drug smuggling organizations in Mexico often engage in conflict and struggle to be the kingpin and control of the smuggling routes into the U.S, and for this reason violence, terror and other forms of threats become the primary means for settling disputes in Southwestern border (Finklea, 2013). The violence is often experienced in this region because the region is the arrival region for the majority of these illicit drugs smuggled into the U.S.
Terrorist Infiltration
The United States Southwest border mostly characterized by ever-present infiltration of terrorists. The Federal government has revealed that there are hundreds of illegal immigrants from nations known to sympathize and sponsor of terrorism often apprehended entering the United States to the Southwestern border yearly through illegal smuggling (McCaul, 2006).
Corruption
In general understanding and as far as crime is concerned, Corruption fuels all crimes in any sector of the economy and further, corruption itself is a crime. According to U.S Department of States, regarding Narco-Trafficking and War on Terror, Criminal and terror organizations have a huge chunk of financial resources and use such funds to corrupt government and law enforcement officials mostly in regions that have proved difficult to control and manage (Luna, 2008). This involvement in corruption is evident when under tight security at the U.S Southwestern, Mexico border, these drug trafficking organizations tend to bribe law enforcement officers to gain illegal entry into the U.S corridors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the activities of the criminal and terror network organizations pose a threat to the United States' national security, and for this insecurity reason, the Federal government must take steps to secure its Southwestern borders, and the U.S borders as a whole. Concerning the Southwestern border, the Federal government must combat these increasingly powerful, sophisticated, and violent criminal instigated network of a drug cartel, and to completely stop their illegal smuggling activities into the country.
This security concern can is achievable through among others, enhancing border patrol through technical surveillance, promoting both domestic and international policies to prohibit illegal entry into the United States, partnerships and sharing of intelligent information among Federal, State, and local law enforcement departments, as well as enhancing intelligence capabilities and information sharing with Mexican counterparts.
