Introduction

My dream of becoming a veterinarian was not an overnight sensation. I have always wanted to pursue a course in a veterinary school ever since I was a small boy. The aspiration developed during my childhood. It is one of my parents' memorable reminders that I have always wanted to become a 'doctor for animals.' I would return all the dogs that I found in the neighborhood wondering to their owners. I also enjoyed helping other dogs to find new homes within the community. Notably, a chance to study in vet school would be a fulfillment of my childhood ambitions. I stand with an outstanding opportunity of recording the best performance in the pursuit of my dream.

I found out that I was gay when I was around seven years. However, I felt it was right to inform my parents when I was seventeen. My parents were not receptive to my thoughts when I told them that I had been dating another man for a day. My explanations about being gay were disregarded, and several instances followed after that to ground me. My parents took away all forms of privileges, for example, laptop, friend visitations, truck, and cell phone. My mother did everything within her capability to ensure that I was isolated from the real world. She had hope that exerting pressure on me will enable me to change my sexuality as she considered gay a sin. Even though I was seeking unconditional love from my parents, I did not get it. I had a lot of things in my mind especially, the struggle to fit in and the concern of seeking acceptance as gay. The outcome would have been a non-issue if I had developed my self-esteem and fortified my leadership skills. Comfort, support and safety are critical aspects of the need for effective competition (Unsala, Basagac, & Yerlikayaa, 2016). However, I missed the vital aspects when I needed them the most. I had to find a way of dealing with it so that it does not hinder me from achieving my dreams. However, the distraction of seeking acceptance had a negative psychological impact on my wellbeing. The troll had already been manifested in my academics when I took a different turn to turn the state of circumstances. Notably, the pressure and psychological trauma had a negative impact on my studies, hence resulting in a low GPA.

However, I am a go-getter. I am creative in regards to finding ways that can enable me to achieve my goals. I was fortunate to find a lesbian teacher who inspired me to be the best at what I would want to do irrespective of my sexuality. The supportive learning environment gave me an opportunity to change for my best interest. Consequently, I started looking for a chance of pursuing what I have always wanted, for instance, a great leader and a role model. In my quest to reinforce my leadership skills, I founded and became the president of a pre-vet club in the campus. The fact that the university does not have animals did not hinder me from pursuing the aspiration of supporting other students with helpful resources about veterinary. After realizing that the pre-vet school lacked support system lacked support systems, resources and mentorship programs for sharpening applicants, I helped in creating a program that will cater for the missing services. I have also received appointments in different panels such as the AAVMC's student panel. These opportunities have played a vital role in enhancing the scope of my leadership skills (Unsala et al., 2016). My determination and ambitious drive have won my parent's trust as not only a diligent person but also a hard worker. My list of accomplished goals affirms that I am capable and willing to work for what I want, and at the moment, I would like to be the best veterinarian.
