According to the research carried out from 1991 to 2003 by National Youth Risk Behaviour Survey, clearly shows that sexually active high school teenagers use contraceptives. Also, contraceptive usages among High school teenagers improved between the year 1991 and 2003 in the USA. The largest improved usage of contraceptives occurred among the ninth graders in America. The main aim or reason given as to why high school teenagers use contraceptives is to prevent pregnancy.

A lot of issues arise each and every day concerning the use of contraceptives among high school teenagers. But most people shun away from such issues. Articles get published from time to time but people do not account for them. 'For those who are already writing, the question becomes: Are they producing anything worth reading?'(Dennis Baron, pg. 853) Some of the arguments include; the legality of contraceptive usage among teens in high school and parents role in administering these contraceptives. Teens in high school still get considered as minors hence live under strict rules and regulation of parents and teachers. Here, the teachers and parents fail to acknowledge the fact that the rate at which a child matures differ with the rest other children. For instance, a child in the eighth and ninth grades tend to compare themselves with the teens in the university. They pick on sex mostly because it is associated with maturity hence finding themselves using contraceptives.

Contraceptives in high schools act as a method of doing away with early and unwanted pregnancies among teens who still wish to continue with their careers. Some of the teenagers in high school lack knowledge about safe sex education. The teenagers take upon themselves the responsibility of finding out on their own hence landing into danger of using some contraceptives which leads to future implications. Also, the parents find it hard to teach their children issues concerning sex hence shy away from that duty. The subject of safe sex education is a taboo in Western culture. The society still believes that it is unethical and immoral for parents to teach their children about sex.

The act of ignoring the topic of sex education by teachers and parents to only health educators has made the issue worse. The health educators find it very hard to teach each and every high school located in the USA. In other words, America has a large number of high schools hence it takes a lot of time to reach all of them. Also, the health educators may arrive late in a school hence failing to serve most teenagers. Sex education among high school teenagers is important hence, a lot of emphasis on it is needed to assist the children in school.

Conclusion

As the argument goes on, on whether to teach sex education in high school, the parents also need to play a big role in educating their children. The parents spend a lot of time with their children at home and hence the need to get closer to them. A good relationship built between a parent and a child creates a conducive environment for the parent to teach his or her child on sexual matters. Also, parents should shun away from shying off issues concerning sex education. Safe sex education awareness leads to a better understanding of the consequences of early sex, early pregnancy and better ways of using contraceptives among high school teenagers.
