Brady played college football while at the University of Michigan, and he was drafted by the patriots during the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft (Gaines). During this period, Drew Bledsoe had an injury, which allowed Brady to be a regular starting quarterback in his second season. The late selection of Tom Brady has been considered as the greatest steal in the history of national football league (Gaines). His career in New England did not start off well. The time he was joining, the New England Patriots were in a mess, they had lost six of their last eight games and they had their head coach fired. New coach Bill Belichick was appointed and he made the biggest steals in NFL Draft history by signing Tom Brady.

A lot of people think that the New England Patriots got lucky to have Brady late in the Draft. From the facts, luck had little to do with this. Before the Draft, Dick Rehbein was sent to scout on quarterbacks ("Tom Brady Recalls His Scouting Report From NFL Combine"). When he came back, Rehbein reported to Belichick that he had found the best quarterback that fit the system used by the Patriots. This was Tom Brady. All coaches and workers in front came to an agreement on this. The team needed a player with the mental makeup that Tom Brady had as witnessed back when he played for the University of Michigan. However, many teams did not consider Tom Brady as a good player since he had lost his starting job at Michigan. Another reason that made other teams lose interest in him is the fact that he appeared un-athletic.

Since joining the league as 199th pick in the 2000 national football league draft, Tom Brady has grown into one of the greatest quarterbacks of all the time. He has been with the New England Patriots for 20 seasons, regularly starting as a quarterback. He has started all games in 18 seasons consecutively playing in a record of nine super bowls. Tom became the first quarterback to win a super bowl in his first season as a starter. As a Patriot player, he holds a lot of postseason records. He has been awarded as the best quarterback in touchdowns, completions, and passing yards. Brady has managed to win four Super Bowl awards, which is the most ever won by a player as well as National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP). Brady has led New England to back-to-back titles in the years 2003 and 2004, winning over both Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Brady has created history with the New England patriots. Since the day he became their starting quarterback in 2001, his team has never lost in any season winning 16 division titles (Reiss). New England played 13 AFC championship games from 2001 to 2017 and they managed to win nine of them. The combination of Tom Brady and the head coach has become the most successful in the history of NFL. They have won more both regular-season games and postseason games (Reiss). All of these scenarios have set new records in the history of the NFL. As Tom Brady continue winning with the patriots, they did not appear in the super bowl until 2007. In that season alone, Brady set a record with more than 45 touchdown passes. He also led the patriots to 16-0 finish, setting the first regular-season record. In the same season, the Associated Press named Brady the male athlete of the year. He became the first NFL player to receive the award since Joe Montana.

As the 2008 season start, Brady missed the entire season due to a knee injury. Many people thought his career had come to an end. During the 2009 season, he came back reenergized and destined to win more. Later in that season, he was named the comeback player of the year. In 2010, his record-breaking did not stop; he set the new record by making a total of 358 consecutive passes without getting intercepted. He went ahead and won his second Associated press award again. He was the first unanimous NFL MVP since Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor won the award in 1986. Joe Montana and Tom Brady are the only players in NFL who have won more than one NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP awards.

In the nine Super Bowls that Tom Brady has participated, he managed to win six of them (Sports and Vroom) . His winning percentage rate is about 67%. Out of the six wins, he was named the MVP in four of his victories. The first MVP award came during the Super Bowl XXXVI, which he threw only 145 yards and one touchdown. The next MVP was during Super Bowl XXXVIII, which he had a better performance of 354 passing yards with 3 touchdowns. After the consecutive winnings and awards, it took Tom 11 years to earn his next MVP award. He got the award again in Super Bowl XLIX for throwing 328 yards and making four touchdowns.

In any sport, the worse comes when a team loses a championship. Despite Brady winning six super bowls, he also knows the exact feeling one can have when they lose. Tom Brady has lost 3 Super Bowls in the total of nine Super Bowls he has participated in. When he appeared on WEEI's, he explained that losing games can take a real toll on players and it is something they deal with every day (Goss). He states that all the losses are really tough and hard to accept. The emotions remain fresh in their minds, and it gives them regrets. This happens especially when an individual does not give their best in a game, which can cost a team a win. The act keeps hounding them for the rest of their life, and no one will want to go through such experience. Such losing time act as a lesson and motivation to stay focus in the future (Goss). Brady went ahead and stated that winning is important because it is something you will be celebrated for the rest of your life.

Tom Brady is now 42 years as he undertakes the NFL regular season. Some individuals will argue that his career is approaching an end, and the Patriots may not be still the best teams. There is little completion in the AFC East and I will expect the New England patriots to have an easy way to another title. The challenge is whether Brady is still in good shape both physically and mentally in order to guide the Patriots to another 10th Super Bowl in history. The bottom line is that you will never count the patriots out as long as Tom Brady is their quarterback.

Despite being teams running away from signing Brady, New England Patriots made the right choice in giving him a chance. Over his career as a quarterback player, Brady has won three awards and four Super Bowl MVP Awards. He has twice managed to lead the NFL in passing yards. Tom Brady is known as the third-highest career passer as compared to other quarterbacks. In postseason history, he has thrown more passing yards and touchdowns more than any player. Despite his humble beginning, he has managed to surpass all the records that were before him. His career so far has been a success making Brady be rated among the greatest quarterbacks of all the time. As a privilege of his hard work, Brady's name has been associated with some of the NFL rules, which has popularly be known as "Brady rules."
