The UCR tries to depict the various social, criminal and deviance that take place in the society when it comes to giving of verdicts on some illegal issues. There are also multiple ways illustrated by UCR that tries to depict on various topics of crime that appear to be biased and inaccurate according to the results ridden from a report. There is also presents of inaccurate pictures of demographics entailing crime challenges that are addressed at different extents with the perception of creating more competency and accuracy in the field of criminology. Chapter 7 on deviance, social and crime issues tries to illustrate the various gaps and niches that occur in the Uniform Crime Report and thus giving various reasons for the challenges to be experienced and condoned by the people surrounding it.
There are social issues of criminal activities that occur in the U.S every year, and one that seemed to be fateful was the one that involved the 73-year-old woman being grabbed her purse by a 19-year-old man. This case was prosecuted severely on the instincts presented by the people that were involved attacking a lady from behind and grabbing her all the belongings she had. It also shows how the people in different societies commit crimes that are not abiding by the values, norms and the roles of the community. Individuals appear to violet on their values and norms by robbing old and older people, and therefore they are prosecuted without prejudice of their bad behaviors in the society.
The factors that lead to biasness of the Uniform Crime Report are the misunderstanding created by the individuals by lack of apprehending fully on the meaning of deviance, crime, and social control. The aspect of the lack of clear lines of direction and understanding of these terms make people violate their norms with a lack of knowledge that there are severe consequences. There are also various conflicts that arise due to lack of strict rules and regulations set by the National Crime Victimization Report (NCVR). The NCVR is responsible for setting up the rules and regulations that guide the validation of the UCR for it to effect well and avoid instances of biasness. The people are advised daily to advance on the social and criminal aspects by doing the right thing and following all aspects of norms and values for the achievement of different percepts to be meet.
The biasness aspect is well illustrated by conflict functionalism that addresses the stability aspect of the UCR. The conflict theory depicts the sociologists the framework to be followed on the social changes and addressing of the perspective of functionalists. The conflict theory tries to connect the various perspectives to the real-life situations associated with crimes and how to handle them gracefully without the use of more power and antilogies on the social crimes of the UCR. The biasness is also contributed in the UCR by the use of the more advanced ways of solving the problem that is not relevant to some population in the USA. This creates a scenario of misunderstanding on the solvency of social control and issues entailing the affected people. The aspect of lack of well-established interrelationships between the culture and the legal rules in the constitution gives out different issues that are difficult to be solved at individual perspective thus difficult to manage it as a model of UCR.
The issues of biasness of the UCR was tried to be interconnected and relayed by a scholar known as Merton Robert. Robert tried to explain his idea of labeling to the contribution of self-fulfilling prophecies that are incurred to by the mistaken beliefs; the repetition may be loudly or frequently repeated and lastly, is on the interconnections being perceived as being true. All ideas and issues addressed are directly intervened to cause an inadequate supply of information on the aspect of low beliefs on the issues affecting the people as far as the UCR is concerned.
The aspect of biasness has been explained thoroughly by the two ideologies of Robert and conflict theory as the various issues had presented to the failure of significant issues involved in the field of criminal justice of social, values and the norms of the societal aspects. The people need to apprehend the interconnection of deviance, crime and social control at different levels for the UCR to work effectively and efficiently in the solving of cases. Notably, the aspect of biasness remains very critical on the levels being created and termed as being not controllable by multiple theories of conflict and the gurus of sociology for example Robert. The elements of biasness should be looked into keenly by adjusting all gaps that might cause alarm for the people living the current nature of the society. Therefore the Uniform Crime Report continues to play on the presenting of different lousy pictures of the crimes done at various demographical areas.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the biasness aspect of the UCR is mostly determined and well-illustrated and interconnected to various ideas and scholars and therefore there should be the creation of well-apprehended rules and conditions o comprehension of all aspects to address issues differently.
