Introduction
In contemporary society, individuals have been concentrating on accomplishing their objectives at work individually more than focusing on the idea of teamwork (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). They fail to understand that teamwork is an essential device for enhancing productivity within an organization. Sanyal & Hisam (2018) sought to examine the effect of teamwork on occupational performance. Their article particularly highlighted the impact of teamwork on faculty members of Dhofar university, and how it influences their performance. Sanyal & Hisam (2018) assessed several factors associated with teamwork, and it included the concept of trust, leadership, performance evaluation, and rewards (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). Generally, when employees work as a team, it improves their productivity, morale, and overall quality of the organization's product or service (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018).
Three Main Takeaways
Teamwork and Employee Performance
Sanyal & Hisam (2018) defined teamwork as an important work skill that is necessary to achieve, and accomplish the visions, goals, and organizational objectives to enhance the performance of employees within an organization. Group members improve the skills, knowledge and abilities when they work as work (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). The effective behaviors and concepts associated with teamwork can augment the level of improvement of worker performance and productivity (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). Working as a team will help employees to increase their ability to solve conflicts and challenges that may suddenly appear at work. Sanyal & Hisam (2018) reported that teams provide greater involvement, challenges and feelings of accomplishment as they work on achieving a specific goal. A team-centered strategy is the best method of enhancing perfection and timeliness in terms of finishing the specified tasks (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). It also creates a good working context for employees and increases the level of creativity, productivity and the success of the whole organization (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). In a nutshell, employees and managers should work cohesively to enhance the morale that will later impact on the productivity of the workers.
Leadership and Structure
To guarantee effective performance and productivity within an organization, it is important for teams to develop a clear leadership structure, and members should be able to know their role clearly. Sanyal & Hisam (2018) mentioned the leadership qualities that influence team goal accomplishment include, the ability to develop a clear vision, the ability to get familiar with the organization culture, the ability to focus on performance growth, and the ability to foster innovation (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). Leadership techniques used to impact both worker contentment, and also work performance. For example, a transformational leadership style followed by well-structured roles and responsibilities of the team members is important for the success of any organizational team (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018).
Team Trust
Sanyal & Hisam (2018) implied that the idea of team trust occurs when group embers believe in each other's competence and work skills. Based on the study they did, they concluded that there is a positive association between trust and team performance (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). The trust within a team has the power to strengthen the behavioral ideologies and beliefs which foster productivity and growth of the entire organization (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). In a nutshell, trust develops a positive and healthy occupational context where the team members can deliberate and iron out their ideas without fear of being criticized or judged (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018).
The three takeaways are important in real-life situations within the organization. For example, if I am the Human Resource Manager in a tech company, I would ensure I create a team-oriented strategy while assigning roles to create room for innovation, and productivity (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018). Developing a clear leadership structure is important in ensuring workers know their roles, and grow their performance development. Finally, trust creates a positive and healthy work environment where the team members will feel included and appreciated (Sanyal & Hisam, 2018).
