Introduction
"The Man "was written by Taylor Swift, and she produced it with the help of Joel Little. The style of this song is Synth-pop, the short form of synthesizer pop. Other sources may refer to Synth-pop as techno-pop. The genre of this music is a prominent feature of the late times in the 1970s, and the main musical instrument to produce the tune is the synthesizer. A synthesizer is a piece of electronic music generating instrument that converts audio signals produced from playing a musical keyboard into sound. Electronic drums, fingerboards, music sequencers, and guitar synthesizers work hand in hand with the synthesizer to control the musical rhythm.
Synthesizers rose to popularity in 1960 and mostly used to create a pop, dance, metal and rock genres. The instrument used in this song's performance are drums, keyboards, and a professional mixer. The tempo in The Man is described as an up-tempo. The up-tempo is a fast-paced guitar beat that keeps the song on its climax from beginning to the end. As Taylor Swift was performing "The Man," she put in some exciting dance breaks keeping up with the music's pace and pauses. This creates audience excitement in response to the performance keeping the show very vibrant and engaging.
Personal Reflection
My overall viewing of the performance at the American Music Awards was worthwhile. I enjoyed the beautiful stage set up, which enabled different angles of viewing the performing artists on stage. The Microsoft Theatre was also beautifully lit with LED Lights on all walls with light ribbons hanging from different points of the ceiling. I could not stop staring at the flickering lights that kept changing in color. Most of the performing artists were dressed in flashy gowns, makeup skillfully applied and the lighting made it perfect.
As vast as the theatre was, I could not help but feel warm. The atmosphere in the Microsoft theatre was serene and friendly all the same. The event planners were thoughtful to leave enough space for the audience to move around and dance to the great tunes playing on stage. The choice of performing artists was also sage as most of them had music in the pop and R n B genre. Violinists, guitarists, and saxophonists had rehearsed enough before the event. Al the performances were smoothly run without unplanned occurrences.
Boredom did not, at any point, make way to me as the hosts were very engaging. The audience, in general, was very keen on watching the performance such that all amazing acts were responded to with scream and cheers. I particularly enjoyed the Taylor Swift performance of The Man song where several little girls dressed in the same blouse as hers came to dance. Their movement was so systematic, and the uniformity that existed between them all just made the view so marvelous. Additionally, the words printed on Taylor's clothing were in support of the meaning intended for the audience. When listening and watching the live performance of " The Man," they could relate the printings to the song's lyrics. The theme of this song is stressing on feminism strength and ability to do just what the man is believed to be capable of doing. Moreover, as Taylor was performing the song, she invests all her emotions into it driving her message home to the audience. She talks about love and politics, all in the same song.
Other than The Man, I also enjoyed the Toni Braxton performance of: Unbreak My Heart". The beauty of the emotion in the song's lyrics kept me singing along all through. Mostly, I enjoyed the beautiful voice and change of tone within the song's performance. I also loved the soft background musicality of the guitar and violin. Her dressing is also very appealing to the crowd and gives her a bright spotlight and visibility as the musical queen that she is. I would, by all means, wish to attend a similar event with pop and R n B genre of music. Not only is this music style engaging but it is a modern engagement and youthful attraction. Pop and R n B never ages despite the year it was created. It will forever remain to be a sweet tune to many depending on the message and composition structure it possesses. The slow tempo of the song brings a soothing feeling to the soul, and it made me feel moved and emotional. I could listen to this song over and over again without getting tired.
Conclusion
Music, to me, is a soul healer, and it makes me feel relieved and relaxed. The experience that I had at The American Music Awards was quite what I needed. A feel of exclusive live performance from many of the famous musicians far and wide. The Award ceremony also gave me ample time to get to learn the variety of existing genres of music and get firsthand feel artistic nature that music holds. After this award ceremony, I can surely attend more events similar to the AMAs.
