Introduction

I want my life to be about delivering humanitarian help to the less fortunate in society. There is a lot of suffering in the world. There are already patterns in place to conserve the above goals. I have developed a helping habit. As a person from Germany, I watched the refugee crisis unfold firsthand. I spent months trying to associate with the refugee families and help them in whatever means I could such as food, clothing and in some cases even shelter. Now that I am in America, I see the same happen here, and I intend to help the immigrant families in whatever way that I can.

There are some behaviors and patterns that I need to embody for me to achieve that goal. The one behavior is humbleness. For the 26years that I have been around, I have noticed that almost all behaviors and traits have their downside except for humbleness. One can never suffer or be disadvantaged because they are humble. There is also remorse. People need remorse so that they can help a fellow human being. That does not mean that I have already embodied the characters necessary to help other people. I have not embodied minimalism. To some measure, I am still greedy and value objects and people based on their monetary worth. Since I am a soccer player one of my favorite players is French player N'Golo Kante who plays for the English club Chelsea. Despite making a lot of money, he is humble and drives a cheap car. I want to be something similar. I am also yet to embody community living. I still think in terms of 'I' and how to benefit at the expense of other people. I do not talk to my neighbors and hardly know all of my classmates by their faces leave alone their names. Back in Germany, I had started to make progress on achieving minimalism by following some of the Buddhist philosophies. However, since moving to America, I have regressed on those practices such as meditating.

Furthermore, there is the issue of a society that I currently live in. It is hard for one to abandon materialism when the American idea of success is living the American dream which is all based on financial wealth. A capitalist society makes it very hard for one to be minimalistic because all systems in the nation including school are geared towards creating wealth. However, it does not end with capitalism. The culture also fosters individualism. The ideology behind the second amendment is built around individualism where every man and woman will be responsible for defending his or her selves and their property. Individualism means every person for themselves. But it is not entirely about the culture because the setup of the modern world also doesn't encourage community living. In cities and big towns such as mine, it is difficult to adopt community living. The high population and the busy lifestyle makes it almost impossible to have time to associate with your neighbor.

My primary motivation for taking a humanitarian path comes from the daily events around the world. Every time I turn on the television, I see a story about refugees fleeing their countries because of war and poverty. When I log into my social media account, I see a story about struggling families suffering to get basic needs in America. I walk down the street, I see a homeless man who spent his youth years fighting for his country, and now that they no longer need him, they have left him to die of hunger and cold in the streets. These things are my motivation because I know in another scenario; I could be the one fleeing from war. During World War II Europeans were crowding ships fleeing the war-torn region. They were all heading to Africa. No one chooses where they are born, and some people are just victims of circumstances.

Things such as family, friends, and knowledge are essential to me. Thinking about my family gives me nostalgia. I believe family is one of the most important things a person can have other than life. A family gives me a sense of belonging. So that at the end of the day, no matter how bad the situation gets, I know that I have people that I can go to and they will accept me. The same applies to friends. It is important to outline that the friends I am referring to are those so close that they become family. Friends are important to me because they form the link between family and the rest of the population. They are also there to complement family. If I do not have a family, the friends become family. Knowledge is necessary because it shapes my personality and teaches me how to interact with people. I intend to use education as an instrument to achieve my goals. Knowledge is also essential because it can be transferred hence enabling other people to benefit from it as well.

Some experiences have provided wisdom for me to choose that path as the life that I want. I once went dining in a restaurant thinking that I have money in my wallet. It turned out I had dropped my wallet or had been pickpocketed. After the meal, the waiter brought the receipt, and when I went into my pocket, I could not find my wallet. The server was furious and thought I was lying to her. An old man was sitting close to my table watching the event unfold. He came to the server asked how much I owed and paid for it. Later as I was holding a conversation with him, he told me he is an engineer at BMW. I felt excited and told him I would love to work at BMW. He gave me a disappointed look and said, "The world has enough engineers and doctors, what it needs is more good people doing good."

Conclusion

Despite its shortcomings, I feel like America can provide access to these goals. America is still among the world's most charitable countries. The country has many philanthropic foundations that I can utilize as a stepping stone to achieve my dreams. The government also runs some programs to help the less fortunate in society. My education competency and intellectual virtue make me employable in these organizations. They, therefore, leverage my pursuit of goals by increasing my chances of being employed in humanitarian organizations. The welfare of the future generations is dependent on our actions. I would want my offspring to inherit an environment that cares about the plight of fellow human beings. I want my family to inherit a situation where they do not have to worry about human-made catastrophes and disasters such as wars and poverty. I believe there can be a world without poverty. It is not possible for everyone to have the same level of wealth but it is possible for everyone to have basic needs. Basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing should be compulsory and available to everyone. But one cannot reach that end people have to start taking action to help each other.
