Introduction

The sports industry is similar to any other industry that exists in the economy, consisting of products, consumers, and producers. In this case, the consumers would include the spectators, the participants, and corporate or business people. The outcomes of the sports industry include sports events, sporting goods, sports information, and personal training for sports. The producers and the intermediaries include the sponsors, medial, agents, equipment, sanction bodies, and ownership (PERM 2006, 2019). All these aspects make it an entire organization, and therefore must integrate sophisticated and well-organized leadership. The success and growth of the industry would depend on how well the industry is lead by the management and the board of directors under the producers and the intermediaries. This paper aims to discuss leadership theories that are relevant to sports, the problems that are faced in the sports industry, and how the leaders would manage them.

One of the leadership traits that would best fit my sports organization is the contingency theory of leadership. This is because this theory has it that there is no particular way of doing a thing, which fixes leaders. The production level of an individual is dependent on the environment they are in. This means that, depending on the availability of resources and other basic requirements that match the abilities of the leaders, then is when their capacity is measured. It considers the organization as a whole, in this case, the organization's culture and behavior, which would influence the leadership of a person. Some of the critical things that contingency theory focuses on include the task requirements, the expectation of peers and behavior, the organization culture, and practice.

The reason for choosing a theory is the fact that the world is changing with rapidly changing technology. Among the factors that are brought in is the cross-cultural organization where people from backgrounds, races, and cultures are coming together. This way, leadership would require flexibility in a way that it can adapt to these changes and adjust to function effectively and incorporate all these differences. Contingency theories best fit this situation as it considers the culture of the organization, behavior, and the peer's influence among the sports team.

Another leadership theory that compliments the contingency theory is the transactional leadership theory. It is characterized by the mutual relationship between the leader and the follower, where each party contributes decisions. One of the things that leaders do under this theory is based on a reward system in which the best performing follower is rewarded. Both benefit in that the follower receives the rewards, and the leader benefits from the results produced. It is one of the most effective since studies have shown over time, that potential is fund in every single person. It gives everyone an opportunity for self-development, through practice and exercise. This theory has it that a human being is seeking to maximize pleasurable experiences and minimize undesirable experiences. This means that the strive that everyone has to realize their full potential, and in most cases, it would be for the good of other people.

The reason for choosing this theory is for the fact that I have seen some football gurus who had no talent, but through determination and exercise, they have risen to become sports icons in society. This just shows that everyone can do anything if we use the positive energy within us to exude the greatness within. The theory enables the leader to study and understand the follower, and come up with ways of helping the individual based on their strengths and weaknesses. This is where contingency theory comes in that; the leaders will lead according to the specific power of the follower, and not based on some pre-destined set standard.

What I consider my strengths is my determination and attitude towards life. I always believe that there is greatness in everyone, which is not constricted to particular places. Only proper cultivation and training would bring out these abilities. An individual's attitude also would determine performance for that specific task. Therefore, with an excellent positive attitude and determination, I can pursue my dreams and be sure to realize then. My weakness is letting go of something that I have started because I believe that it must be accomplished. The difficulty that comes in is the fact that it may be something wrong or something that has minimal benefits and would end wasting time and resources. I improve my skills through the study and exercise of such studies. With time, they would be encrypted into my system and become one of the skills I have. This is one of the principles of the sports industry, regular exercises.

The society is currently is rapidly changing, becoming more sophisticated and diverse and, therefore, bringing about issues to the sports industry. Some of the challenges that leaders face now include political influence and ethical dilemmas in sports. This owes to the significant development that games have been playing for both individual and economic development. The high levels of competition and benefits make people and economies strive, by all means, to have a share, and in so doing, compromising ethics. This leads to even a more difficult situation for the leaders in decision making. One of the ethical issues would include, for example, the recent increase in the use of steroids by athletes. This is due to the stiff competition that is arising, and everyone wants to become a star. The economic benefits to be gained from these sports also have seen political leaders getting int it and politicizing it. Most of these have been, however, tackled with.

The upcoming issues that sports leaders are to prepare for include coming up with new organization designs that adopt the most current technology. This may include the plan for the stadiums, the sports equipment, and other items. For the team to be capable, they should the most current technology and, therefore, become a challenge to the leaders. Another issue that leaders should prepare for cold includes organizational conflict. Seungmo 2019 gives some of the sources of disagreement to be differentiation, low formalization, power incongruence, communication problems, and interdependence, among others. Leaders should, therefore, be ready to deal with these situations.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the sort is an industry as a whole, just like any other. The future of these sports activities would depend on the decisions that are made today, whether they forecast the future or are limited to the current situation. Therefore, leaders are tasked to be keen and see the course that the sports are taking and consider coming up with ways in which to mitigate barriers and improve on the strength of the sports industry.
